[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Another busy week just started so today another picture from my archive, and another story from the trip to lovely Romania... :>

The third week in Romania. After "a few" adventures and visiting a lot of very amazing and beautiful places (for details please see here) we stopped in Danube Delta, in Istria. We where here few year ago and this place was so amazing that we decided to visit it again :)

It was a kind of scientific expedition so even during the evening there was something to do. I used a power generator to attract the insects active during the night while Michal (cedryk) and two other friends started to prepare a supper. It was really cold this evening and really nothing except some Chironomidae flies and one damselfly (Ischnura elegans!!!) came to the light. So after a few hours of "lighting" we go to sleep...

In the early morning we saw an old, tired and rather poor man, who was fishing about 20-30 meters from our camps. When he saw that we woke up, he just came to us to say "hello". You can say - nothing special, normal situation. But this is not true. He did not know any word in English or German, and our Romanian was rather bad so we could not talk to much. But he just said "Buna ziua!" and gave us a bunch of sweet grapes... Probably a bigger part of his eatables...
Once again we could see how friendly and disinterested are Romanian people... :>


Now a few words about the picture. Here on the photo there is a very special place for me and my studies. This is a kind of salt marshes, a very special habitat for my favourite insect group - tiger beetles. In this place two species from this family co-occurred (about 17% of Romanian Cicindelidae fauna): Calomera littoralis nemoralis, and Cephalota chiloleuca. Interesting is that that the first species prefered "open areas" while the second occurred mainly among vegetation (both are on this photo). The meeting zone was really very narrow.



And last but not least, I would like to dedicate this picture to my friend Krzysztof (cataclysta) who just came back from the 2 month trip to cold Antarctica. I hope that soon you will visit much "warmer" region somewhere on the Balkans ;>

Very nice to see another lovely photo from you and especially one with such a nice story :) Thanks for the good image you are creating ;)

This is a place i love rememberring, too. I've only been there one for camping and i will surely remember the thousand amphibians singing very loudly :))
This is indeed a special habitat for all sorts of animals and a place worth investigating deeply.
You photo shows a lovely place with both preferred environments for the two tiger beetles you encountered here.
The photos is great, with gorgeous, well saturated colors and with a lovely perspective. I like the attention give to the FG here as well as to the composition, with the horizon carefully placed at about 1/3 from the hight.

Hello Radomir,
Looks like a great place to camp, though mosquitos might be a nuisance. I read your note with great interest. Seems like your scientific expeditions are fun. Photo is well-composed, and I like the layers of colors. On an unrelated subject, there is also Istria in Croatia, which I'm sure you know about. I noticed that TN calls the one in Romania, Histria.

Hello Radomir,
It's very refreshing to see a landscape every now and then and this is very beautiful and looks so peaceful! Nice DOF and lovely colours.
Nice note! - We had a similar experience in Turkey where we thought a farmer came to tell us off for walking on his land, instead he came and gave us a bag of peas and oranges!!
It must be the warmer climate down south that makes them so friendly, not like us up in the cold north!!
