[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
You would say - an usual sunset... but in fact it's not as the place is unusual. You see the liman "Lacul Sinoe", and there is a great history behind it.

It started the existence some 7,000 years ago as a bay of the Black Sea, when the Danube River has started to build its enormous delta. For years and years the Danube deposited silt and sand forming long peninsulas sheltering the bays from the open sea. Some 600 years BC, Greeks from Milet came and established a colony - Histria named after the Danube ("Istros" in Greek) - and gave the name "Sinoe" to the bay. The colony flourished becoming one of the most powerful ancient cities in the Black Sea region. And the river continously dragged the sand into the bay. Around I BC, the bay got almost separated from the sea and soon became very shallow and muddy - ca. V AC the port-city of Histria died. The people left and the newly formed coastal lake (liman) has never seen the merchant ships anymore.

The spectacular ruins remained - called sometimes the Romanian "Pompei". When camping in this abandoned area, you just hear the voices of this rich distant past in the wind - at least I did...

Michal, how nice it is the effect upon the water.

I like mood and composition a lot with its two thirds of heave and one third of water.

Very nice shades in the clouds.
