Continuing my series of dedications, this one is for Niek (SunToucher), one of greatest friends from TN.

I chose this picture from 2 reasons:
1. If you'll look at his last post, it's rather similar (kinda like a crop of his)

2. It's the habitat of a lot of dragonflies and damselflies that you can see exactly under this picture in my gallery.

I really liked the effect of the setting sun and its light here...along with the Circular polarizer, i managed to get good saturation on the colors. I also took advantage of the still water for the nice reflection ;)

It's my first "landscape" here on TN and it's also a bit abstract, so i'll really need your honest opinion on this one :) Please!

Thanks for looking :)

PS: I've chosen "Water Plants" as the category...just imagine there is a "/" between them :))

Hi Horia,
How nice to see a photo dedicated to me! And also being it your first landscape/abstract nature shot. I am really honored. This does look like a simular area and I am sure a wonderful area to be at.

The mirror like composition works really well, especially with the slight angle of the reed. The saturated colors from the CP are beautiful. The setting sun gave the entire photo an nice warm touch. The completely flat water adds to the abstractness of the composition.

TFS my friend.

Niek

Aloha Horia,
a fine picture. Reed beds are truly inviting for the naturalist. I see...I see...great reed warblers, purple herons, lots of dragonflies and other birds and insect and hear the sound of the leaves. The reflection in the water is really great.
Nice pic, Jacob

Hi Horia,
A very attractive habitat that I know very well as I lived near a river and a reservoir in my childhood. A well composed landscape with warm and lovely colours. I can hear birds and smell the scent coming from the reed!
Best regards, José M.

Hola Horia,
El paisaje es muy bello, el color muy natural, la composición excelente y el hábitat muy interesante. Un cordial saludo

Hello Horia,
Niek had two dedications in two days; it is not that bad for him :) LOL. This is a nice scenery and we can imagine all those insects running around in this busy place. To be honest, I think there is a little lack of sharpness of the high herbs and I don't know from where it might be coming from as the aperture and shutter speed seem to have been well settled. I can be mistaken though, was it a windy day? Anyway, this is still a nice post and your first LANDSCAPE! Bravo!
Claudine

Hi Horia,
A beautiful scene. Great color saturation and nice detail. The reflection in the still water looks great. Perfect dragon and damselfly habitat. Looks great!

Una simple y maravillosa composición vertical Horia, aprovechando la belleza de la reflexión originada con tan intensos colores y ese suave foco que realza la escena.
El encuadre está bien elegido en función del punto de vista captado.
mis mejores saludos... Ricardo

A simple and wonderful vertical composition Horia, taking advantage of the beauty of the reflection originated with so intense colors and that soft focus that it enhances the scene.
The framing is very well elected in function of the captured point of view.
my best regards... Ricardo

Hi Horia,
Good to see so much lanscapes lately :-)
I think you had the same issue than me, when uploading the photo and realize there is no a water/plants category...neither a lagoon one!
It's interesting realize that this kind must be dealed different that whith other types of pictures, in terms of the effects that the jpg compression does, particularly on the skies and the big areas with same color's gradients on it.
I think in english are called "artifacts".
I'm not sure, but this probably has something to do with Claudine's comment about the high herbs. Or may be it has to be with our camera' s lenses? I don't know.
Probably was simply a slight and unexpected wind.

Anyways, the beauty of this picture is remarkable.
The POV used here is so good, I like a lot the composition you made, with the slight inclination, the reflections and the great contrast between the blues (sky and water).
I like so much also the resulting effect of the polarizer, you got nice intense colors, and surface water that is almost a mirror, no evidence of disturbing light, only the clean plant's reflections.

Congratulations for this post, thanks for share and best reagrds,
JM

Hi Horia.
My congratulation on the start of your own landscape series. First step I really great.
I like hold vertical cropping and amazing diagonal construction of the shot. Really it is very expressive.

The view is wonderful so much too. Rush near the river or lake – this scene is native for our region. Colours, sharpness and details of all pictured objects are excellent at high range. Pleasant to eyes and heart picture. Bravo and my best wishes to you.
Alexei.

This is a nice simple composition, Horia. It is appropriate to dedicate it to Niek as he too is attracted to simple, abstract compositions. I think you did well with the exposure and composition and use of the polarizer.

Thanks for sharing

Hello Horia,
Does "TOD: about 7pm" mean it was shot at 7 pm? If yes, you are lucky to have so much daylight in October to make f/8, 1/320 sec at ISO 100 possible. That aside, it is a terrific reflection, and certainly a wonderful first landscape shot. Congratulations.
Hakan

Framed between the two strips of different shades of blue, the tall reeds and their reflections on calm waters look really abstract but very beautiful, Horia.
I really admire your first landscape.
Best regards,
Ram

eric

Hello Horia,
Did you notice the colours in water reflections always are richer, more saturated?
Probably some kind of polarizing effect at work...
Interesting, symmetrical framing, good details!
Greetings,
