Hello friends

I know i've been absent a lot again from here, but with a good reason: i've been out rather much and taking all sort of shots...as i said before: i'm building up an archive for next winter :))

As a proof that i'm not lying, here is a shot from yesterday afternoon. The sun was already rather low and it created some harsh lights and shadows on pretty much everything. Now usually that's bad for shooting, but i managed to spot an exception :)

Here is a Calopteryx virgo male that if looked at from a specific angle with the natural light, it "turned on" its iridescence. This is a farley common species here on TN so for those who haven't seen how it looks "normally" you can easily find an example; or you can look here.
I was absolutely amazed by the difference and i shot as much as i could. The conditions were very difficult because there was a constant breeze that kept moving the brach that it was on, but i came home with about 40 shots out of which about 5-6 were sharp. I'm happy :)

I'll be going on several more outings in the near future, so i would also like to take this chance to thank you all for your visits and very kind comments and apologize for not being able to return them, yet.

Tanks again :) Hope you'll like it :)

Mon ami Horia, you used the light so efficiently, this superb damselfly shines literally out of the frame. It's a pure beauty, an iridescent jewel that you captured. Also, it is perfectly sharp, even the tiny hair on the legs are! You're a super photographer and please, don't hesitate to build yourself a big library of pictures for winter! Bye bye!

Hi Horia!

Thank you to present us this beauty! The colours of this insect is not only marvellous, but also stunning. That metallic effect is wonderful. You have very well composed your picture and well managed the lighting, although it seems that you had to work hard to get a perfect picture.

Congratulations, and kind regards

Markus

N.B. Thank you very much for your encouraging words on my butterflies.

Hello Horia!

This is one of most beautifull shots of Calopteryx I've ever seen! POV is very good, but shinning colours just superb!

Hello Horia, Do the damselfly color look like this. Good shot with a very nice BG. Actually with the BG the fly is standing out. Ganesh

Hello Horia,
A superb capture of a Male C. virgo, the ambient light giving a wonderful display of nuances of blues and greens and the legs show so well against the natural dark BG. The sharpness is beyond question, as is the composition and POV.
Low angle light photography has its difficulties but can be very rewarding, As I have found during my trip up north.
Thanks for sharing this beauty,
With best regards,
Ivan

It's amazing how colours change in different light.
This photo is very arty.
The lighting is great!
Sharp and crisp.
Lovely colours.

Well done mate!

Joe

Hi Horia,
Excellent use of the sunlight to light up those beautiful blue iridescent wings! Love the black BG that makes the colors pop even more. Very good detail/DOF, comp, and POV also.
Great job of "spotting the exception" :)
Well done!
Howard

Hi Horia,
A perfect capture of this beatiful male dragonfly. It is really interesting that the coloring is iridescent according to angle of the natural light. You captured this case perfectly my friend. Thanks for sharing this.
Warm regards,

Bayram

Hi Horia,
That blue on the wings is just electric. Great fine detail and a well displayed subject.
regards
Matt.

Hi Mate,
i missed this one somehow! I love the black BG you have created here, the irridescence of the Navy Blue of the wings really stands out and your POV is very well chosen too...nicely done as always, don't work too hard ;o)
Paul

Wow, this is really special Horia. What an absolutely gorgeous specimen. He certainly stayed still for you slow shutter speed. The dark background is really effective. Nice work.
