Time to catch up with Greg in our little friendly "Odonata Olympics" :)

No. 18 on my list and the species that i show you here today is Cordulegaster bidentata - the Sombre Goldenring.

It's a very similar species of its cousins to the west (and i'm referring especially to C. boltonii), found around mountain streams, local but abundant. I managed to photograph mine on a trip to the mountains in June where i've seen many specimens.
It's probably not as good as i hoped for, but i hope to go again this year or the next and get some better and sharper shots.

I will try to alternate my posts in the near future, because i want to show you some nice landscapes from Croatia, too, as well as keep Greg's and my friendly competition going :) Meanwhile, i'm also very busy with both work and studies so please excuse me if won't be as prompt with my critiques. I did however set a goal for myself: to return the good, useful and thought-of ones and i indent to do that, even if that implies posting less often.

Thanks for looking and i hope you'll like it :)

That's a beauty my friend, classic Bogdanesque photography! Wonderful details, perfect DOF and of course, interesting subject too! I really like the catchlight in the wings especially.

Let's the game continue! ;)
Yes, your friendly olimpics is very good idea for all TN members! Thanks to your tournament we will be able to learn a lot about European (at least Easteuropean ;>) Odonata species.
According to the picture I must say that this is a species not seen by me in the wild till now. So additional point for this unuque photo :>
Quality is very good (as always... ;>), and note includes a lot iof interesting data about species.

By the way, finally I have a littel more time, so soon your dragonfly pictures will be included in the PES gallery :)

And what to add at the end? Maybe - I hope to see more and more Odonata species on your pictures, maybe the next one from Croatia? ;)

All the best from cloudy Lodz!
Radek

Hi Horia!

Good to see you on the ring again :-)

I must say this is one of most beautifull European species. Maybe not so colorfull like some kinds of Aeshae, but for sure very nice one. Combination of yellow and black colours is great and those emerald eyes! I've never seen this specie and now I want to see one :-) Congratulations for splendit picture my friend!

Hi Horia!

As usually, it's an eye candy... I can't get enough of this friendly competition that allows us the be confronted with spectacular pictures in the best quality. Also this one is an outstanding one and distinguishes itself by marvellous details and colours. At first, I had to get accustomed to the very symmetrical composition. But in fact the symmetrical body of the insect invites for this composition.

Kind regards

Markus

What a pretty dragonfly!
Excellent lighting and colours.
Great sharpness and detail too.
You've posted a lot of species so far! We seem to be lacking in insects of all types this year.

Anyway, great work Horia, looking forward to more new species :-)

Cheers mate,
Joe

Your tenacious and voracious appetite for the import of the things you love....they are always important. More so than anyone can know..keep on Horia...you are the most welcome...

Hi Horia,
You and Greg are enriching the gallery of TN a lot these days. The collection you guys show us is of a very high value to all of us. You not only collect them but also capture them in a high level when it comes to photography. Love the composition, colors and detials in the tail and body. It is a small pitty that the head is slighty OOF.
TFS,
Niek

Hello Horia,
How marvellous to be able to photograph this species of Cordulogaster, C. bidentata. You did it so well with good sharpness, from a fine POV against a great BG and set it in a perfect composition.
A nice one to match Greg's repertoire!
Thanks for sharing this beauty, especially as we don't have it in Sweden!
Cheers,
Ivan

Hi Horia.
First-class BG for this amazing specimen. Amazing colour pattern and smoothness. The main subject – charming insect – is reproduced terrifically. Superb colours and details. Sharpness of the dragonfly image is razor. POV and symmetrical composition are so attractive too. Nice great job from you, my friend. Bravo.
Alexei.
