Levelling up the score with Greg here, this is my no. 20 :)

I just had a quick look at the list of my previous posting and i couldn't believe that i haven't posted this species this year, yet. For me, it's a very common one and i get to see it in a wide variety of habitats and places. This is also probably why i didn't photography it that much, being used to it around all the time :)

Anyway, i think it's really no need to say this, but i'm just going to mention the ID: this is the popular Banded Demoiselle - Calopteryx splendens.

It was a cloudy that when this was taken and i quite liked the even saturation i was treated with in this shot. Maybe the composition is a bit too centered, but i wasn't really inspired here very much :(

Eh well...sorry that i can't present you some rare and more interesting species. I still need to convert some photos i've taken this summer (i really didn't have a lot of time) and i know i have something special there fore you...but a bit later :)

Thanks for visiting and i hope you'll like it :)

Bravo Horia!

I think Calopteryx is most beautifull d-fly. Maybe not so strong and fast flyer, but very colorfull, elegant and beautifull creature.
Photo looks very good with simple composition and good blue/green colours. Fantastic, summer work my friend!

No. 20? Very well! It nice to see this Calopteryx species (BTW Greg just presented the second species from this genus). Interesting is who will win! :> According to zoogeography - you have bigger chance as in Romania some more species live, but this is a game depending on weather and other factors so I think that better will be a winner :) And not only - we all will be winners, as from your and Greg's presentation a lot of things can be learned! :>
Greetings from Lodz Horia!
Radek

PS. According to your question about collecting Cicindela. Well, in Poland tiger beetles are active sometimes even to October (it always depends of the weather), so I believe that in Romania it is similar. But of course it is less important this or next year. Record is record :> Anyway, just small suggestion for the future, maybe it would be good idea to collect specimen which is photographed after taking picture? :>

Hi Horia,
I wish we had these beautiful damsels here in NZ. Their colours and textures are amazing.
I thought the textures in the wings of Gregs last one were really good espscially.
Great focus and details on the metallic looking body and head here.
Nice work.
TFS

Hi Horia,
Number 20, you guys are creating a keen eye for this wonderful insects. And, you always seem to portrait them in a high art like fashion. The clean look of the photo with a single straw in focus is gorgeous. The main subject is ofcourse perfectly captured with razor sharp details and perfect color recreation. I love the gleaming effect of the body.

Niek

Hi Horia

This challenge between you and Red Greg has provided me with quite a number of good appreciative chuckles. Sometimes you are "up" and then again it's Greg's turn, but it is great to see you are currently running neck-to-neck with each other. Actually one might feel that it is good this way as the only winner so far is TrekNature, the members and the International Internet community whoever might be witness to this fabulous photographic "confrontation". You guys have produced some fabulous and widespread material and it just shows what amazing results a friendly competition can produce.

This little Banded Demoiselle is well captured and beautifully presented. I just love the luminance and the richness of the metallic colours on the insect. Although the composition might be "a bit too centered" as you put it, but I still like it for the angle the blade of grass runs through the image and the damselfly placed to the top of this line.

Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

PS. I am waiting eagerly and in anticipation for that promise of "something special there for you...but a bit later".

Hi dear Horia ,

Hello Horia,
Amazing how images of these beauties have such a variation in the intensity and shades of blue. This one, taken in cloudy conditions, is much bluer than mine taken in sunshine. The variation must also depend on the individual and how old it is. Interesting!
This image is sharp and well composed with a fine neutral natural OOF BG.
Common, but we all agree, beautiful!
TFS this beauty,
Ivan

Hello Horia,
Nice blue/green composition. I have always liked the amazing colours of Calopteryx. Here it composes well with the background. Nicely blurred BG. Nothing more to add :-)
Best greetings,
Michal
