Hi again everyone :)

Here is my no. 21 from the Odonata Olympics and i thought i'd try something a bit different from my other postings of dragonflies and damselflies this year: a collage.

Here you have a presentation of both sexes of this species, the Keeled Skimmer or Orthetrum coerulescens - the female on the left and the male on the right.

There are 4 species from the Orthetrum genus living in Romania; i've already posted photos of 3 of them and soon i will select a decent photo of Orthetrum brunneum, the fourth :) I wish i had the same success rate with the other genuses, too :))

Thanks for visiting and i hope you'll like it :)

Here is the list of my d-flies posted this year so far:
Damselflies:
1.Calopteryx virgo - Beautiful demoiselle
2.Calopteryx splendens – Banded demoiselle
3.Sympecma fusca - Common Winter damsel
4.Platycnemis pennipes - White-legged damselfly
5.Pyrrhosoma nymphula - Large Red damselfly
6.Erythromma viridulum - Small redeye
7.Enallagma cyathigerum - Common bluet
8.Ischnura elegans - Blue-tailed damselfly
9.Coenagrion pulchellum - Variable damselfly
10.Coenagrion ornatum - Ornate bluet
11.Lestes barbarus - Migrant spreadwing

Dragonflies:
12.Aeshna isoceles - Green-eyed hawker
13.Aeshna cyanea - Southern hawker
14.Brachytron pratense - Hairy hawker
15.Libellula fulva - Scarce chaser
16.Orthetrum cancellatum - Black-tailed skimmers
17.Orthetrum albistylum - White-tailed skimmer
18.Orthetrum coerulescens - Keeled Skimmer
19.Gomphus vulgatissimus - Common clubtail
20.Onychogomphus forcipatus - Small pincertail
21.Cordulegaster bidentata – Sombre Goldenring

Nick..

Hello Horia!
What a nice company I have today in TN :> My picture next to Horia's :>

Congratulations because of your 21st! But if there are two sexes (sexual dimorphism is perfect visible), so manby it should be at least 21 and a half? ;>
Very nice collage and beautiful pictures: sharp, detailed, with good light and POVs.
By the way, maybe next Odonata picture will be from Croatia? ;)
Best greetings from Lodz!
Radek

Buna Horia,

Ne prezinti un colaj foarte bine facut atat tematic cat si estetic. Imaginile cu cele doua libelule sunt foarte bune cu o calritate deosebita si o foarte buna redare a culorilor.

TFS si toate cele bune,
Cristian

Hello Horia!

Two in one - it is too much for me :-) Both shots are very good. Clear and sharp, with green BG and colorfull insects. Both with almost same POV and pose. Good educational pictures showing very well sexual dimorphism.

Your todays post woke up me :-) My next will be new specie of D-fly :-)

Arg....I don't know how to critique this one...It looks like it should be seen through a stereoscopic device like I used to have 50 years ago...I think it is because in a way it almost resembles a quasi 3D image...not a bad thing...
Bob
by the way..who is winning...I think this has gone on for a long time now with no official results in!

Hi Horia,
how many dragons and damsels do you get in Romania?! You must have photographed at least 90% of them all! :-)
This is a splendid pair of shots.
Both photos are flawless.
Congrats on your 21st too :-)

Ah yes, classic Bogdon presentation here :o) And by that i mean pretty much perfect! They both compliment each other so well, and the slight symmetry of the leaves/grass they're sat on is nicely countered by their similar positions. Excellent exposure and DOF, as always. Very well done my friend!
Paul

Hi Horia,
What a great idea to show both sexes. I never knew that they are so different from eachother. I really learned something from this one. I really like that both are almost in a similar position which allow for even better comparison. Both are taken with great care and have wonderful details and colors. I am very impressed on your skill to have the perfect DOF.
TFS,
Niek

hi Horia,
beautiful picture of Orthetrum family,
in the same pose and with excellent details

I also posted male and female of orthetrum cancellatum

best regards sERGIO

Hello Horia,
Two very good images. And I always underestimate your photos.
I'm sure I'll find them even better when I see them again in the future.
And that's a very sign as they are already very good.
I don't know whether that make sense to you, Horia:-)
In natural English: It's very beautiful;-)
TFS these athletes
Annick
