Hi again,

Another addition to the species list from this year (nr. 25) ;) I don't know what Greg's doing...i don't want to him to fall back too much but i also want to show you pretty much all of the species i've managed to photograph this season and therefore i can't leave them all for the last week of the year :)

As its name says, this is a very common species, shown many times here on TN...i'm not going to get in any details.
What you see here is both sexes of this Sympetrum striolatum: up is the female (note the markings on its abdomen and the tail appendix) and down is the male (note the two brightly colored patches on the thorax).

Thanks for visiting and i hope you'll like them :)

Hi Horia,

These are both beautiful and if i had to make a choice, i would have preferred the upper one due to the wonderful marble like brown bg. Okey, it could be a common darter but it's not a common well-enough photo but a great one on that upper one!

About Greg, i think that he is busy with the coal and woods enough at this time of the year:-)

Greetings,
Ersin

A great pair of images of these female and male dragonflieses Horia.
Both are very sharp with pretty eyses.
I haven't seen a dragonfly for a long time.
I hope summer will be here soon.
TFS

Buna Hori,

Ai realizat un colaj foarte bun prezentan cele doua sexe ale acestei insecte. Ambele fotografii sunt clare redand in detaliu caracteristicile insectelor.

TFS si toate cele bune,
Cristian

Hello Horia,
A fine double of S. striolatum showing both the female and male from great lateral POV's with excellent technical qualities that show both these individuals off in the best way, the sharpness, lighting, DOF and BG's being top quality.
Nice to see this, especially as this species of darter is not so common in Sweden.
Thanks for sharing this fine contribution and don't let Greg's lack of odonata postings prevent you from posting more!
Cheers,
Ivan

Salut
Numai bine, Oana

Hi Horia,
A nice collage of these common darters. Very well composed with sharp details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Nick..

What are you trying for a 2 for one deal here:-) Must have been hard to get two which were sloe enough in contrast to fit one above the other. Nicely framed.

Hello Mr Bogdan :o)
Nice double posting! Both shots show this species off to it's best. Excellent details and the similar setting and pose in both compliment them very well - great presentation, well done!

Hello Horia,
Brilliant presentation of both sexes of S.striolatum! Excellent details and beautiful colours. I like the way you've captured them in similar poses on a branch. Very nice backgrounds too!
Many thanks and have a nice weekend!
Ulla

ah my old friend Horia,
I love them both my friend, you made a couple here, a good photo from each, nice photojob here, have a good sunday.

Hello Horia,
I see you are quite the star here, so this critique will seem out of place for some.
I looked through some of your portfolio, and I will have some comments for you.

Here it goes...I am not a biologist, but I am a professional photographer, and this collage while it might have documentary importance for biology and biologists, from a technical point of view...it leaves to be desired.
None of the two images are in focus, you have noise, and the focus that exists is not done on the desired spot, which normally it should be on the head or eyes of the insect, if you are planning for a composition such as yours.
I know it is not easy to photograph dragonflies, but you could do a much better job.
Anyway, keep it up and I hope you can learn something from my comments :)
Cheers,
Gabriela

2 for the price of 1 - what an excellent presentation of both sexes of the pretty dragonfly! :-)
the poses and colors are great and the sharpness is spot on exactly where it should be - although i am neither a biologist
nor a "professionell" photographer - i guess everybody running around these days with a big digicam thinks of him-/herself) like
that. wonderful idea & best wishes from cologne, thor.

Hello Horia,

Quite a competition:-)
And a lot of D-files, I mean D-flies...
Undoubtedly you're the expert.
Very good work.
Annick

Hi Horia!
So the games are still "working" :) It is nice to see your new captures of Odonata, even if the species is not rare :)
Nice to see both sexes in 1 place, especially if the pictures have good quality :)
All the best from Lodz my Friend!
Radek

Hi Horia,
A wonderful presentation showing both sexes very nicely..
Very good handheld shooting using ambient light.
Natural colors - great detail/DOF.
I admire them both :)
Well done!
Howard
