Hi again,

After 3 days of snowing non-stop (which hasn't happened here for a lot of years!) today was mostly sunny and i managed to get out with a friend to some nearby hills and do some winter shooting. Even if the location we picked wasn't probably the most inspired, we did find some nice bits and places here and there...but it was the walk in the big snow and fresh air that was actually the best.

Being inspired from Markus' abstract nature photos, one of the subjects i wanted to find was some interesting ice formations...and i stumbled upon these near a stream running through the area. I was happy to put my new Sigma 150mm Macro lens to good use and this is one of the shots i came up with.
Uncropped, only adjusted the curves and levels, sharpened and resized for web.

Hope you'll like it and thanks for visiting :)

PS: it's snowing again now and we've already have about 40 cm :)

Hi Horia,
glad to hear you're out making the most of the snow, i think we've finally seen the last of it over here! This is a very nice abstract inpsired by Markus. Good sharp details and very intersting patterns. I hope you got some landscapes to share too!
well done my friend, this would look great blown up and framed!

Hi Horia,
Very nice capture.Well seen and composed. We are waiting for snow in Istanbul:)
Thanks for posting.

Hello Horia
First of all I see you have a nice new bit of glass attached to your camera..Congratulations on your purchase.
Secondly this is a great abstract.....Although I do feel it lacks a little resolution..I would put this down to either a very small upload size (Which is a good thing until the site sorts out its resale policy) or most probably you have pushed the lense beyond its limits of sharpness by using f22...At this f stop most lenses will lose all sharp definition...I would suggest not going above f 16.
All the Same a great Abstract and I trust you are well.
All the Best
Billy

Nick..

Hi Horia,
excellent result here, we can see the crystals so sharp. You had the same idea than I had - I also made some shots of icecrystals at the weekend - I had several chances because it was cold and snowing every day ...
Thanks and greetings

Hello Horia,

It's fun and I kind of like abstract work whether the subjedt is nature or not and whether it's inspired by Markus or not;-).
I spot a lot of arrows or v's within the ice.

Hello Horia !
In France it was snowing for two days now, this is quite unusual too - didn't see it since I was a child, I think ! :-) Nice to see that winter still exists in our countries ! And the picture you show us today is really amazing. Nature is the greatest of all the artists, and you managed to capture all the beauty she created on this picture. I really love the shape and textures of this ice. A real pleasure for the eye. Very well done !
Valérie.

ciao Horia!

I hadn't seen it before.
Great stuff!
Cheers

Hi Horia!

One of the critques says it perfectly well: it's not important if it's inspired by Markus' work! It has to exist by its own, and finally we are all inspired by something or somebody.

I like your picture very much. It's amazing to see the repetition of the crystals and the impact of the puzzle. The effect of the abstarct subject is very pleasant and you have taken full advantage of these shapes.

Kind regards

Markus

Salut Horia
Numai bine, Oana

Hi Horia.
This winter we have not snow at all and almost all days temperature is positive. Nice sample of abstract art. Ice pattern which you have [pictured is very attractive. I like to see your work with amazing macro lens and I am interested for your choice of exposure parameters and your aperture value which usually does not give maximum details (sharpness). What do you think about filter (I have not polarizer) in this case. Whether it has given any effect? My kind regards and TFS. Nice work.
Alexei.
