[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Just thought i'd say hi to the few friends i have left here and share a few ideas :)

Since it's been warm and sunny outside for the past two weeks here, i went down to my nice thermal pond to check if any dragonflies were out already.
Much to my surprise, i managed to see 11 species were flying happily and some even laying their first eggs.
This is the case for this female Emperor - Anax imperator - which kindly posed for me here. Sadly, i couldn't adopt a lower point of view due to the rather steep bank of the pond here...i wish i could have got lower in order to have a better, blurrier background :(

I used my teleconverter with my macro lens for this shot and so the actual focal length was 300mm. Also, because of the TC, the physical depth of field here was equivalent to f/8 (for the tech lovers ;))

I'm not going to say that i'm back on this site yet. I never really left, but i'm also very busy nowadays so i won't be doing a lot of critiquing. For the record, though, i think that when i'll be back 100%, i will only comment/critique the people that are actually honest with me and that at least try to have a positive input in my work.
...So don't bother with kind "Great shot, i like the colors" phrases...they are pointless unless they really argue why.

Oh, and one more thing: dragonfly season is back!!! ;)
Take care

Hello Horia,
a fine picture and an interesting note, too. Besides the technical quality, I like
the natural setting ... you feel like being in the habitat.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Horia
I am glad to see another picture from you. Selen also came back on TN in the last time. Every day there is less good photos to comment and to critique Most of the best photographers has left TN (Ulla, Joe, Howard, Gert, Evellyn, Necip, Paul and many others)

As for the photo I like low POV and blured background and foreground. Main object is sharp and the surrounding is natural and interesting I am waiting for more
Best wishes
Krzysztof

Hello Horia,
Fantastic photo in very clear light. (Superb clarity). I can see almost every detail in body and wings and like the low POV. Beautiful natural surroundings.
Hope to see a lot more of your work.

Well, if you're going to post, then so am i :o) Great to see something from you mate, you inspired me to put something on here too! I think what inmpresses me most about this shot, is the very precise narrow DOF, thats isloted this great specimen beautifully. Great low POV and well composed - great job, of course.
Have to say i miss the golden days of Treknature..
Paul

Hello Horia,
Very interesting shot, with a good sharpness and even a nice reflection of the dragonfly. Very good result despite difficult conditions. Best regards,
Catherine

Hello Horia
First of all I am so pleased to hear that your thermal pond has already produced 11 species of Dragons this year already.
Now for your picture, Your new lense is a fine and sharp one, but I cant in my mind decide if your focus is spot on or not, I know with a macro lense there is a tendency to hit the high f stops which can with carefull user input increase sharpness,
Although I believe in this case the subject is a tad over exposed masking the sharpness you have captured, I have found that using the shadow highlight tool in photoshop is very usefull to correct this even after converting the original raw file.
All the Best to you
Billy
ps..Nori has filled troys seat admirably!

Hi Horia,
This is a really good capture, with awesome detail and sharpness.
Your composition here is perfect and the colours are rich and natural looking.
Amazing work!
Cheers & TFS

Hi Lucky Man!

Good to see new picture from you, my friend. I'm stunned - 11 species??? You've got real d-flies goldmine in your place. I'm in Botanical Garden almost every day waiting for first d-flies but still without any success. It's too early.

Picture looks great. Big and colorfull insect in typical pose during laying eggs. I like blue sky reflected in water, too.

So, looks like it's 11:0 for you ;-)

Nice photo of the green animal. Very good composition, sharpness and nice colours.
Best wishes,
Achim

hello Horia,
I just see this picture, which strikes me for its magnificent colors (I'm more attracted by colors than by perfect sharpness) The subject, of course is interesting too. And I like the way you show this scene, with quite a lot of space, showing the environment. Well seen! And what concerns your thoughts about TN. We just have to be positive now, it's not always perfect, but I thnk that the Nature Archive which TN builts is worth every interesting contribution. The comments of people are secundary..
Mes amitiés

Horia, Very nice compositon and a very different picture. Nice shot and sharp picture Ganesh

Hello Horia, nice low POV and shallow DOF. Good choice of lighting direction, I can see the reflection of the fly's wings on its body. And of course good natural colors.

Oh-oh...look who is back. One of the kings of the dragonfly world and with a number one shot right off....I wonder what fun trails these shots will lead to this year...good to see you!

Buna Horia
Frumos, mie imi place!
Numai bine, Oana

Excelente detalii,si un sharp de invidiat. Felicitari.
