[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Scarce Fritillary - Euphydryas maturna
This appears to be a very scarce species, at least in western Europe. It has suffered serious decline during the last century and it can now only be found in a few small regions of France, Germany and Austria, becoming slightly more easily found in Hungary and Romania. It is also widespread in S Finland although I don't believe it is very common here.
It flies along woodland edges. It feeds frequently and for long periods on flowering shrubs, often at significant heights but will also fly over neighbouring flowery meadows and roadside verges (even in villages!) and take nectar from Scabious,

see WS for upperside wings.

Hello
Very good picture of this butterfly. The animal is very sharp on the uniform pale background - I like it very much. Also the colours are great.
Best wishes and thanks for sharing

Very nice butterfly image Parvulescu.
Beautiful detail and colors in the wings.
The butterfly also does stand out wonderfully against the lighter BG.
Pity the wingtip is'nt in sharp focus.
Aperture of 8 or 9.0 would have give a better result as it comes to depth of field.
Warm regards, Harry
