Hi again, friends

Sorry i haven't been spending much time on TN these days...i have some projects i have to submit soon and i have a little bit more work to do on them...

Here is another experimental shot i took last year. I took a lot of inspiration from Guy Edwardes and his excellent book on landscape photography and tried something different here: taking advantage of the wind and the dark clouds all over, i tried to focus this entire shot at the contrast between motion and motionless.
Therefore, i used the smallest apperture my lens lets me - f/32 - in order to slow down the shutter speed to the maximum, added only the polarizer (to cut the reflections and maximize the saturation) and took an 8 secounds exposure on these old trees.

The result is, as you can see, a blend between sharp and blurry - between the perfectly still trunks and the wind blown branches and grass.

Hope you'll like it and thanks for visiting.

PS: I just bought a cheap full ND filter with which i can do some more shots like this...if i have some more time and if the conditions are right, i will try some more ;)

Hi Horia.
You have saved up huge experience of use wide angle lens and such extreme exposure parameters. I hope sometimes I will use it in my practice. I am amazed with reflection the windy weather using long exposure time and getting fine impressive blurriness of the branches and grasses. I also like wonderful combination of lighting among the trees and shadows from crones of the trees. Green colour tones are not usual and very attractive. Wonderful creative work. My best wishes at your quests. My warm greetings and kind regards.
Alexei.

Hello Horia,
You don't have to go to Namibia to create extraordinary images.
The shutter speed effect is just great. And as a consequence the aperture is very small and that's providing the amazing depth of field.
The trees are also beautiful.
There's some Harry Potter atmosphere in the photo. Very successful experiment..
Well done
TFS

Hi Horia,
A different approach to the landscape photography.
Very interesting to me the result got, certainly kind of magical mood, like in a fantasy dream.
It seems we're both in a hurry...
Congratulations and thanks for share.
Best regards,
JM

Hello Horia !
This is such an unsual picture - the blurred parts where the wind made the branches move make the forest look strange, somewhat dreamy, like the foreste of a fairy tale. I really like this effect. Composition and natural colors look great, too, and I really like the mood of your picture. Very well done !
Valérie.

Hi Horia,
An interesting experiment and quite effective.
A little 'abstract' perhaps for TN,but hey!
I'm always into something a little different & its kinda cool too.
Cheers & TFS

Horia, you did what I would dream of doing in photography, it is beautiful! You could do the same with wind and grass on hills, whatever moves in the wind. I love the composition, with the small road at right, giving a sense of direction yet not knowing precisely where this forest might be and where the road might lead. I love looking at the trunk of these old trees, twisted and strong. Wow, it expresses so much in a single image. I also like the almost desaturated tree barks against the green of the grasse. This is a beautiful artistic expression in light and movement, thank you!

Hello Horia,
An interesting photographic experiment: we have of course seen the same effect with water but never with trees and grass where the use of an 8-second shutterspeed has led to a misty effect.
I can't say that I like the effect on either water or vegetation but this is a matter of taste and I thank you for showing us the possibility in this well-composed shot taken at the edge of a forest.
No hard feelings my friend,
All the best,
Ivan

Hi Horia!

I like the way you present us your experience. I believe it is important to try out new techniques.

The result here is superb and I like your picture very much. But it's also a little bit conflicting because on one hand we have a fine green impression and a great depth of field, on the other hand the difference between the sharp and the blurred parts in the picture is not pronounced enough. The blurr is not strong enough to really create an alienation and too strong to highlight the impression of movement.

The subject itself is superb, the wide angle adds to the value of the picture and the colours are fine, too. Maybe the the path is a little disturbing element...

Hmm, I hope I'm not too severe!

:-)

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Horia,
Just a quick visit from me while at work. I really like this photo and the effect of the wind and the slow shutter is great. Something I am trying to do as well with my ND3.0 filter. I saw you used a grad ND filter. Did you use the filter upside down with the HD part across the brighter path?
I am not seeing this photo on the best possible monitor, but could it be that there is a slight magenta color cast? The dirt looks a little purple-ish.
TFS,
Niek

Hello Horia,
Amazing experiment with a great result! I just love the atmosphere created here by the wind in the trees. The colors and the composition also are very beautiful. For me an excellent and special picture.
Un grand merci!

Hi horia.

Very interesting and effective experiment.
I particularly like the mute green colours, and the 'mist' like leaves.
