Hi again, friends

Time for my number 29 of this year's species.
Initially, i thought i'd post a damsel so that i'll have 15 of those and so the final Odonata photo from this years would be a dragonfly and i would have 15 all...30 is around number :)

But then i changed my mind. I said i couldn't have a collection of d-fly species without probably the most iconic of them all - the one shown here - the The Broad-bodied Chaser - Libellula depressa. The males are mostly shown from this species - with their light blue abdomen - but i consider the females to be just as beautiful and as attractive in color, too.

I hope you'll like it and thanks for visiting.

Here is the list of my d-flies posted this year so far:
Damselflies:
1.Calopteryx virgo - Beautiful demoiselle
2.Calopteryx splendens – Banded demoiselle

10.Coenagrion pulchellum - Variable damselfly
11.Coenagrion ornatum - Ornate bluet
12.Coenagrion puella - Azure bluet
13.Lestes barbarus - Migrant spreadwing
14.Lestes virens - Small spreadwing

15.Aeshna isoceles - Green-eyed hawker
16.Aeshna cyanea - Southern hawker

Hallo Horia
Now what can I say? I don't feel so alone anymore. It is not only me that has a short body. I have never seen one of these short bodied dragonflies and it is indeed very special to look at. The details you have captured on this one is just stunning. Focus, sharpness, framing and composition is really tops. This specific dragonfly's wings are so perfectly shaped. The shine caught on the wings is worth a A+ and rounds of this great image. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards.
Anna

Hi Horia,
This is just beautiful. What a depth you have used here to get every part of the pretty dragon in focus in that soft lighting conditions. Ofcourse, the plain background helping your cause very well. with a macro lens this is always difficult image. tfs.

Hello Horia,
Superb view of L. depressa showing it in a fine pose. I like the golden abdumen here and the clear view of the wings. Excellent sharpness and beautiful colours of the background too.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hello Horia !
Nr29 is a wonderful one, really - looks quite impressive ! :-) I love his big yellow body. You captured him with great skill. Sharpness and details are perfect all over the d-fly, as well as the very natural colors and the composition. The blurred BG is splendid too, as it makes your insect stand out so nicely, and it allows us to see the wonderful details of each delicate wing. Very well done !
Valerie.

What exceptional focus you managed on this shot Horia. I'm glad you are able to fill out your year's goal/collection of dragonfly species. I never even knew there were so many!! You obviously really enjoy your field of study and photography complements that interest. Do you used your photos in your studies/work. Are you planning a book?

Nice work.

Hi Horia,
What a sharp and crisp image!
f/16 really worked great, as the whole insect are in proper focus with fine details all around.
On the other hand, so good the colour contrast of the yellows at the body and the blurred greens at the back.
My compliments and thanks for share.
Best regards,
JM

Hello Horia.

A fine capture to see. Details in the wings are great as the overall sharpness is. This way you can get a quit impressive list of odonata you've captured this year.
Very well done and thanks.

Hello horia, Fantastic shot with superb view. Lovely sharp picture with fine details. Good shot ganesh

And you book is getting thicker and thicker.
This is a real stunner. I like its central composition and the light reflecting of its wings. The details are wonderful. I am really impressed with your skill to have the DOF in such good condition. There are not soft areas in the insect and yet the BG is of a wonderful soft texture.
TFS,
Niek

Great capture of this fat dragonfly Horia.
Very sharp details.

Hello Horia,
Very nice POV from the butt :) I mean it too. It look so 3D, like the whole body sticking out at me. Excellent details and beautiful color and light. You must have lot of patient to do this. I always try to catch them when I was young for fun. It was not easy. Thanks for this close up shot.

Hi Horia,
a superb shot of this Broad-bodied Chaser!
That list just keeps on growing :-)
Very good sharpness.
Really well composed.
Perfect DOF.

Well done mate!

Joe

Some days are good and some bad...here...bad bad weather and I have been prevented by pain and time constraints..but surely I would have stopped dead in my tracks on this one...Is the contest over yet or is this just an addition...I admit not having read notes...I am in a hurry to catch up!
Bob

Hi Horia,
After careful evaluation :)
I would say there's Very little room for improvement here.
I like most the wing display & dragons broad body, shown so nicely from this POV..
Very well done & Happy Holidays mf.

Hello Horia,
Technically this is a perfect shot of a female L. depressa: I can't fault and can only admire it for the clarity and presentation against a superb natural but neutral BG. The composition could't be better as well.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful summer memory,
All the best,
Ivan

Hello Horia.

Excellent macro, nice composition and colors.
Very good details.

Regards.
Jose Luis.

hello Horia

I surely find the symmetry of this dragonfly to be very striking and perfectly balanced that it is really good composition skill, although in most cases a off center view is preferred yet here it is so balanced that almost equal space at each side is seen.

Good bokeh and your f/16 gives sharp clarity. A fine post.

Happy 2009 to you.

tfs, bill

Dear Horia,
a first class capture and presentation of the Broad bodied Chaser in beautiful natural colours and utmost precision.
An impressive number of different species you were able to present and identify this year!
Looking forward for more jewels of that kind to come from you in 2009!
With thanks, and best regards,
Peter

Superb Horia!
Patrick

Excelente enfoque y muy buena composición. Bien resuelto el tema del encuadre tan complicado a veces en las libélulas por su forma alargada.
Además es un elegante conjunto.
Saludos Horia: Josep Ignasi.

Ciao Horia, great macro of lovely Libellula depressa by unusual POV, wonderful light and colors, fine details and excellent sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio
