Name:Coprinus picaceus
Family:Coprinaceae

This is one showy and strange looking ink-cap.
The brown to black cap is covered with large white dots and it has 7 - 10 cm diameter when wide open.
Stem is white, slim, about 10 cm high.
Like all ink-caps, the fructification period is very short, about half a day, after then, the cap liquifies.
It likes deciduous forests floor and cooler and humid wheather, doing great at the end of october till beggining of december.
It has a very foul smell, therfore it is recomandable for photographing purposes, not cooking.

Petru, a beautiful and well-composed image.

Great pov and sharpness. I like contrast too.

Difficult exposure with the black & white done well Petru. Well composed with very good sharpness, detail, DOF and color. Very well done.
Thank You!

This one is still on my wish list, it is a very beautiful fungus, quite elegant.
When fungus have white parts like this one, a diffuser for the flash is very useful to avoid highlights. I use a handkerchief, you can adjust duffuse factor by putting more or less paper layers :)
Of course I would love to have a romanian Hydnum receipe, I like to make new things and taste other flavours.
20 Kgs. is a lot of Hydnum!!! :D
This year I picked 3-4 Kgs. without looking for them, only the ones found in the edge of the forest paths. I agree with you they are good edible, although some people dont like it very much.
Thanks for sharing and in advance, for your recipe.
Best wishes, Felipe.

Hi Petru,
I did not know how I missed this one until I looked at the date and time submitted...;-)
Very nice!
I had a busy night hitch, only got to sleep for three out of the seven nights...;-( But, I now have seven days off to enjoy...;-)
Mushrooms amaze me thanks to TN and Felipe's amazing "hongo" photography!
I see you are giving him a run for his money...;-)
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Petru, I've never seen this kind of mushroom before. I think the black/white of the mushroom against the colourful leaves is great. It's a lovely image, sharp, detailed and with great exposure and composition. Very nicely done :)
