Name:Fomitopsis pinicola
Family:Polyporaceae

F. pinicola is a perennial mushroom of woody consistence. Like most of Polyporaceae, it grows on live or dead wood. It is quite large and showy, having coloured circular stripes, the yearly growth sign. The pores underneath are white and small, turning redish when touched.
F. pinicola likes most of the time coniferous wood. In some rare cases it grows on deciduous wood too.
In this picture, they thrive on a dead beech log.

Hello Petru,
I know this species very well - it is very common in Poland on dead wood. Its Polish name is pniarek obrzezony which means "growing on trunks and having distinct margins" - very descriptive and accurate, don't you think!?
Very nice composition, but why such small size of the photo?
Best greetings,
Michal

I like note too.

Great exposure and dof.

Hi Petru...

Nice picture of these two Petru. Fungi are colorfull and detailed. As Michal wrote quite popular in Poland - you can easily spot them on every walk to forest.

Very good use of flash Petru, that brings out some excellent detail. Very good color, DOF and composed well.
Well done & Thank You!

Beautiful colors, almost like a sunset. I thought it was two turtles on the thumbnail! Well seen.
