This species of coleoptera is 7-8 cm long and the male has a big mandible on its head, which it uses as arms and fingers sometimes.
Its larva lives in rotten oak wood for about 4 or 5 years, after which the adult insect looks like this.

It's a protected species, included in the Red List from the Berna Convention.
