Not exactly Fangorn Forest. I'm a Lord Of The Rings fan! But these lovely trees reminded me of the characters in the movie, with their enormous root systems. Photographed in the forests of the Messes mountain range near Zalau, in Salaj county. RAW image altered using the tone mapping functions in Photomatix.

Hi Steve,
A wonderful photo where the resemblance with Fangorn Forrest is well visable. Taking photos in a forrest can be really difficult, the lighting makes it very hard. But, you did wonderful and I am sure that the tone mapping helped out as well. Highlights and shadows are in perfect condition. The composition with both trees perfectly positioned has a lot of depth. Great work on the details and the saturation of the colors. A small pitty that you have some color fringing where the sky meets the leaves.
TFS,
Niek

Surely Tolkien saw beautiful forests as this one, and so he recreated them in his great novels.
Nevertheless, the Fangorn Forest had to be far darker and more threatening. This one seems rather a forest of white Elves, I think.. But you are right in something. You may think those trees are going to set off at any time.
Fantastic shot and composition.
Greetings
Maite

Few forest are so impressive as beechforest in spring, the grey barque, the red dead leafs and the living light green ones, is like pasta parmesan and tomatos, a trinity.

Not at all like your Gum Trees eh Steve? This is a very picturesque forest. With the old fall leaves down and new spring leaves just coming out, this must make for a pleasant walk. Your saturation levels look just about perfect. Excellent detail and colour. Very nice.

Hi Steve,
What a lovely forest... The roots on the foreground look so lovely. Colors and exposure handling is very good. Nice composition. TFS.
