A.D. 2000. My first time in Romania, my first visit on the Balkan Peninsula... Here everything was started... From this moment nothing was like before... ;>

Really at the beginning the plan was totaly different, because at first we wanted to go to Slovakia - only. After a few days of planning we decided to go to SE part of Slovakia to see "Slovensky Raj" National Park. This area is localized next to the borded with Ukraine and Hungrary. Well, the plan was "great" but we had 3 weeks so we start thinking about to see something more. At first we though about Ukraine or Hungary, just to visit some interesting places next to Slovakian border. But really after a very short time the new idea was appeared - why do not visit Black Sea Coast in Romania? It was just a "few steps" from places in Hungary to the sea... ;>
But when we started to check a cost of such trip (Slovakia-Ukraine-Hungary-Romania) we "discovered" that it is a little to expensive (as s tudent I had scholarship only about 40Euro per month...). On the other hand, everybody knows that it is better to see more interesting things in one country than "nothing" in many ;>
We needed a few seconds to be sure what to do. Because Slovakia and Ukraine, or even Hungary are just a "few steps" from Lodz where we live, the answer could be only ones: ROMANIA!!! :>

And we went there. For me it was like discovering Amecica for Christopher Colombous ;> Everything was new, interesting, exotic. But of course there were not bears on the street (sorry, but such stereotype about Romania was in Poland just a few years ago...), people were more then friendly, nature and wildlife simply amazing, culture and historical monuments just great...

That year I foll in love in the Balkans, and it was because of Romania. Later, thanks to some visits in Bulgaria, Montenegro, and more recently in Albania, this love was stronger and stronger...

The photo presented this time was taken on the sandy beach in Doi Mai village near Mangalia, just some 8 km from the border with Bulgaria. It was 5:30 a.m., my last mornig in Romania in 2000.
The colours of cliffs are thanks to the light of the sunrise. I known that quality of picture is not perfect, but please note that this is just a scanned photo :>

Hi Radomir,
A nice account of your first impression of Romania, accompanied by the attractive photo. Too bad about the thrash on the beach, but that happens everywhere. I should tell you about the time I spent in Poland in 1987 as a college student :). Those were the days...
Cheers!
Hakan

Czesc Radomir!

are you sure this is from Romania?;)I hate the seaside, but after watching this picture I think I'll reconsider :)

TFS,
Elena

Hey hey!!!
I was there too :-) We went for that very first "Balkan" Trip together. What I can say more about this shot... It was taken just after we packed our tents and rucksacks, looked at the coast for the last time and left... But it wasn't the last time we saw it - Radek returned there 3 times more, I was there 4 times after this one. Always we were finishing our Bulgaria/Romania trekkings there. And if everything goes fine we will be there again this year :-)
Here you can check my version of that view, I posted long time ago on TN :-)
Best greetings,
Michal

PS. a jesli o fotke chodzi to kolorystycznie oczywiscie czad. Piekne niebo tez wyszlo. Gorzej z ostroscia ale mysle, ze tu pojechales za bardzo z odszumianiem :-) No i moim zdaniem troszke za duzo tu pierwszego planu, mozna bylo odrobine skadrowac.

Hi again my friend

Such a nice photo and such a wonderful story!
I really enjoyed reading about your first trip and impression of my country :) I hope that one day we will have a great time and meet here and go on some field trips, after what it would be my turn to visit Poland ;)
Anyway, since this is an older scan, the quality in understandable, but what's important is still well visible.
The colors here are lovely, the light is great and the composition is exceptional.

Cheer and TFS
horia

Hello Radomir,
yes this would make a very nice postcard. The scenery is lovely and the lighting brought out the gorgeous colors and wonderful textures. Very nice POV to show off this scenery.
Sky

Wow, you was in Romania?
Nice place you've founded, congrats.
