[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The male Tufted Duck is distinctively all-black apart from his immaculately neat white flanks, yellow eye and grey bill. The female is mostly chocolate-brown, darker than the Pochard and with a slightly paler area on the flanks, similar in outline to the same patch on the male. She usually shows at least the beginnings of a tuft at the back of the head. In flight, Tufteds have very dark wings with a broad white bar across the flight feathers.

Hi Szabo, I've never seen a Tufted Duck before so thanks for the introduction, and I'm sorry but I haven't seen your work, so let me say a belated welcome to TN. The composition on this guy is good. I like how you have positioned him, giving him some room to move forward in the frame. You've also done a good job of catching his head in the reflection in the water, while giving us a look under the water to see his kicking foot. Exposure I think is good, and that must have been tough given the dark nature of the bird against that dark water. I don't know the bird, but colour seems to be good, and you have a good catch of the eye. I found the water maybe a little noisy, and thought the bird might use a little sharpening so I have prepared a workshop to provide you with another option. As well, the shot is presently 600 x 350 pixels large and the file is just shy of 102 K. Presentation might be helped if it was a little larger. We can post up to 200K files with the longest axis up to 800 pixels.

Thanks, John
