Hello everyone,

Yesterday i've been out again (for the third day in a row) and finally came back with a photo that i like :)
I visited that same place where i took the other sunsets back in January, but then the water was frozen and there were more clouds. This view is very much the same – facing the border with Hungary (which is about 6-7 km from this spot).

This time, when i left home, the sky was completely clear...no cloud what so ever. I also left quite late because the friend that i went with had to work a little late. Anyway, we got there right on time for the sunset and found out there are some very thin, small clouds right near the horizon - just enough to make a nice photo :)

So, after walking a bit on the bank of this small lake, i found a nice place, set my tripod and camera and fired away :) This is what resulted. I am very proud to say that this is a full frame shot and that i made NO exposure or shadows/highlights modifications at it at all! The only things i played with a bit are the white balance (to get the right temperature for the scene) and the saturation.
If you're curious, you are welcome to check my website for more shots from yesterday :)

Tech-talk: I used my circular polarizer mounted on the lens and on top of that i used the Cokin P121M graduate filter to balance the light in the frame.

Fun-talk: the friend that i've gone with told me that this place was/is used for filtering sewer waters. Now i don't know if he's right because it doesn't smell bad there. But should he be right, i'm surprised that i took a nice shot in a place full of $hit...literary :)))

Hope you'll like it :)

Horia,

The depth of the whole scene is amazing.

I like your composition with the subject in the foreground, leading all the way into the far distance. The colours are great and very appealing.

TFS,
Sheriff

Sunsets are always magic moments. This is an amazing shot, love the colours, reflections and the silhouettes. Well done.
Best wishes,
Achim

You know...sometimes a title says it all...and in this case...a simple title for a wonderful yet simple picture...In colours we see exactly the time of day and share the sunrise with you. You are the genesis of this day for me as the sun rises here, albeit in fog. From one to another....good show!
Bob

Hi Horia!

Hopefully you didn't step into the water!

:-)

Anyway, bad or good water, the result is great. The ambience is very romantic, the composition with the foreground that leads us into the picture is well seen. I also appreciate the perfect balance between foreground, water surface, horizontal line and sky. They are all in harmony. Harmony is the key word for this picture.

Kind regards

Markus

N.B. I'm a bit jalous: you were out for three days in row. I'm in my cell (that's how I call my office) for the third day in a row... Grrr!

Hi dear Horia ,
Very nice scenery with lovely colours.
great composition and nice light.

my best wishes my dear friend
Saeed

Hi Horia

Superb composition - very reminiscent of PaulH's style. The elements are perfectly balanced, leading the eye to the centre of the shot. Likewise the exposure is controlled to create visual interest in all area of the frame. Lovely colours too.

Serene Beauty. A very beautiful composition! Thank you for sharing! Cheers, Klaus

Hi Horia,

Beautiful shot my friend - and no sh*t in sight!!! Love the wide viewpoint and composition - nice lens... ;-) .... and the use of the foreground grasses balances it nicely.

Great timing too, just as the sun is at it's lowest, almost looks like it's disappearing into the trees!

Lovely work!

a job well done that deserved a bonus for it!
many thanks for sharing

It is a pleasure to see your work with this equipment, this atmosphere, details, colours is impossible with a compact dsrl. Nevertheless I am sure that you have also discovered how handy is your S2-IS for certain difficult POVs :)
Thanks very much MF, regards, Felipe.
PD: will keep in contact.

Hello Horia,

It is of course, a very nice picture! You managed to wait up to the last second before the sun began to disappear to take this great shot! Effectively, you can be very proud to not use any exposure or H&S corrections here...! The colors are great and natural! The others picture on your website are Gorgious too, especially the Venitian docks!

Cheers and TFS!

Michel

It is splendid Horia, you take pictures with such natural, yet everything seems to be at its place. A mixture of chaos and will... ouh. What really adds to this composition is the herbs getting into the frame at the foreground. They almost have no colour yet the sky is fiery and the water so blue. On such a calm lake it would be surprising there would be sh... but if its the case, wish you to find others like this one! Superb capture Horia, very inspiring and fascinating to look at.

Hi Horia, I like contrasts, I think we all do to some extent. In any case I'm looking at this shot of yours and I see some sharp looking dead reeds, recently thawed out from the ice, up against a soft pastel reflection and sky. No bright lights, very pleasant. And the other contrast? A nice shot in a place full of $hit...

Thanks, John

Hello Horia,
I can feel there still is some chill in the air!
But the red sun set colours are seldom to be seen here during winter time...
A pleasant composition, and the moment is well captured as the sun is just dropping behind the hill!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Wow! The reflection is perfect!
Stunning clarity and detail.
Superb use of the reeds as FG interest and a lead-in line.
Magnificent colours from the sky and water!
Perfect composition.

Hello Horia,
I am pleased to hear you have been out and about - at least somebody has! That thin wisp of cloud has given you just enough detail in the sky to make it interesting and the colours are very natural and look great. Composition wise, it's probably something similar to what i would have chosen myself, i love the texture you have added in the smooth water here and it is well placed from the bottom left hand corner drawing us further in.
All in all, a lovely, honest landscape. You made the most of what Mother Nature had to offer, whcih is all any of us can ever try to do and succeed with. Well done my friend!
Paul

Horia,
This is a very peaceful and quitet serene landscape. I like the mood you captured. The sunset colors are wonderful, the reflection in the water is refleshing and clear. Perfect sharpness on the foreground. I particularly like the sun resting on the nest like a giant golden egg. It’s about to hatch. Wonder what specie that is. Get you camera ready and take a picture for me. Have a good evening.

Hi Horia, fascinating winter sunset with splendid colors, great DOF and wonderful exposure, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Horia

This is a beauty.
The POV is wonderful, and the perspective is lovely.
You have captured and placed the setting sun nicely.
I like how the shot appears to emanate from that point on the horizon.
Well composed.

This is gorgeous Horia. I am jealous! The gradation of color is beautiful. The foreground grasses leading into the scene are wonderful.

Hello Horia
This is an expertly constructed shot.
Foreground detail leading diagonally from the left corner into the centre of the image and then towards the main focal point (the sun) and then those lovely delicate colours and clouds. Wonderful.

Szia Horia!

What a contrast from the beautiful image and the main part of text to the final joke :D looking at the picture it's hard to imagine what's beneath if that's true.
So back to the picture: the blue parts of the water frame the fg interest perfectly, it is smoothly devided from the opposite shore with reflections... clever solution.
The other thing I love is that the lines in the sky and their reflections leading to the same point - that part is evident, but not always composed in the picture, more rarely onto the edge of it. And what's more, they are connected with the high trees that make the best reflections. And the sun is captured in the right moment. So the conclusion: a perfect composition.

Best regards,
Andor

Hello Horia!
Really when we look in the callendar -today the spring is starting, but because in Lodz the snow is snowing last 2 days and the winter just came back :< I decided to write a few words of coments to this "late winter sunset" photo :)

First of all I like composition. It is simply, but really good - it is a fantastic "postcard" with panoramic view, even if picture is not horizontal :) I like also colours, you kept in very good way all beauty of this sunset :) And even if is is a winter sunset (I really want spring finally... :>) - I like it a lot :)
The only things which would be not present on the image are all these (you are right - all are very small :>) human buigings on the line of horizon :)
In this first day of spring - the best withes from winter Lodz!
Radek
