Lacerta viridis meridionalis - European green lizard
This is one of the largest European lizard species reaching up to 40cm in length. Its range is across mid-European latitudes from the north of the Iberian peninsula to as far east as Ukraine.
The body of this animal is a maximum of 12cm in length, while the tail can be twice the length of the body.
Males have a larger head and a uniform green coloring punctuated with small spots that are more pronounced upon its back. The throat is bluish in the adult males and to a lesser extent in the females.
The female is more slender than the male and has a more uniform coloration, often displaying between two and four light bands bordered by black spots.
In Romania this species covers almost the whole country except the northern parts, and as for the "meridionalis" subspecies it is only found in the southern part of the country (Muntenia, Southern Dubruja).
It can be found in almost all types of habitats, ranging from forest openings or forest margins, bush-covered meadows, grass-covered rocky slopes or even agricultural fields. It feeds on insects, small lizards and even mice. In springtime the female lays 6 to 20 eggs. About 2 to 3 months later brown-colored young appear with a length of 3-4 cm.
In Romania it is considered a vulnerable species and it is strictly protected. |

hello Tiberiu
Nice pov but the cropping is too centered and there are too much highlights. It could be better with some work on Photoshop.

A fine, young (probably female) specimen in a good portrait posture Tiberiu, its camouflage in its natural environment is quite evident here. Good, informative note, my friend.
