Alright...i think i can safely say i'm back :)

I finished writing my final masters thesis and i'm pretty much done with all the studying for now (well that's until September actually...when i'll start my PhD).

Anyway, this hopefully means more time for TN and more time with my friends here. I know i've missed a HUGE amount of great photos from you and i intend to at least look at them and also maybe even write some comments about some older photos of yours. Even more, i want to start returning my critiques as i once used to and get back to an active participation on the forum, too.

That being said, i present you a photo i took on one of the field trips from this spring.
It's a Hairy Hawker - Brachytron pratense i found one morning, in the northern part of Romania. She (it's a female) wasn't warm enough to fly and i was able to get quite close to her and take some good shots.

Just for fun, you can check out why they call them "Hairy" in this workshop :)

Hope you'll like it :)

You can check out some more new dragonfly/damselfly photos i took on my website.

Hi Horia.
You were back with splendid shot of an amazing dragonfly. I am very glad to see it. I think image is simply outstanding. However, I am interested why you prefer this lens for large insect shooting. I like inclined composition of the shot, blameless framing and great sharpness/details together with superb lights and colours. Well done and TFS. I hope in September all will be OK.
Alexei.

Hello Horia,
Nice to see you back in action on TN! I hope that you have a good interlude before embarking on your PhD and can keep in touch with us too.
This capture of a female B. pratense is perfect technically and is excellently composed with a fine bokeh and the lighting is just right. In fact there is nothing wrong with this image at all! You inspire me to post my image of a male with the wings out but technically it is not as good as this so it will have to wait.
Thanks for sharing this beauty, my friend.
Best wishes, Ivan

Excellent shot Horia!
The light and the sharpness of this beautiful dragonfly are very well captured. Congratulations for your thesis. I hope to see more photos soon. TFS,
Catherine

Wow! What a stocky dragonfly! :-)
These are supposed to be spreading quite rapidly here though I've yet to find one!
Let alone get a shot as fantastic as this!!
You got completely parallel to the dragonfly, thus giving us the best view possible and making the most of the DOF which in turn has allowed the BG to be completely blurred! :-)
Very, very sharp and incredibly detailed.
Excellent lighting and colours.
Superb composition.

One of your best, Horia!

Very well done,
Joe

Hi Horia,
This is sharp and with some superb colours and intimacy.I love the side PoV that you have used to cpature this dragon fly. This is unusual and quite interesting eyt one is able to see the eye of the subject quite clearly.

Amazing colours, sharpness and clarity.THe Green BG looks fabulous setting off the dragonfly very well against the BG.The brown gossamer wings look wonderful with great focus, clarity and sharpness.

TFS & Cheers
