Is a juvenile female Wheatear - Oenanthe oenanthe -changing the plumage. Wheatears are small songbirds, living in open-country habitat, with pattern of rump and tail white with inverted black T at tip, very important in identification. O. oenanthe is only breeding wheatear in N and NW Europe.
I made this photo early morning in an abandoned quarry.
I used Canon 30D + Canon EF 400 f5,6L USM; aperture priority, f=7,1; 1/1000 s; 200 ISO. |

Hi Dan,
As usual, you posted a very interesting bird. The composition, the framing and colors are very good; the focus just a bit off. Your birds are very, very interesting and I regret I was not interested in this subject when I was living in Romania. I was probably 10 times in Danube Delta but just for fishing. I did not see any of these beauties – to see birds you have to look for them.
Regards, Mario
Lovely pose, POV, and DOF. You caught the catchlight, and if I didn't know better, I'd say he decided to model just for you. I also enjoy the details in the plumage. Excellent capture - and your notes are interesting as well.
