[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
At higher altitude there are only few sunny warm days therefore flowers and insects takes full advantage of them. I found Phyteuma orbiculare at 1800m altitude in the Postavaru mountain. There were many plants with flowers. I stopped to look at this strange flower from Campanulaceae family. It is the only specie of plant from this family having those flowers with petals kept together at the top and opened at the bottom.

I found the following description:

“Phyteuma orbiculare occurs from dry low-land meadows up to alpine grasslands above the timber line. The peculiar flower structure is characteristic for the whole genus: the long petal lobes stay attached at the tips, leaving small holes allowing visitors access to the nectar at the base of the corolla. The German name “Teufels-kralle” (devil’s claw) refer to the long curved styles. (© Chris J. Dixon).”

Even if the flower has a frightening name it looks beautiful!

Nu ma asteptam absolut deloc sa vad aceasta specie pe TN. Am inalnit-o frecvent in "peregrinarile" mele pe munte.
