Hello old and new friends!

I know it's been a while since my last post, and comment for that matter, on TrekNature.
I just feel sometimes that I can't offer with my ol' film camera the same beauty and quality of the photos like you guys can with a digital one. Then that's the time to chill out for a while and think. But since I can't give up one of my most beloved hobbies, here I am again, with a new set of (huh, scanned) photos.

Here it is a Mr. Limax, having a feast on a lasge patch of mushrooms. A rather large guy; aprox 15 cm long!
Seems that snails and slugs are loving fungi and they are well adapted to eat them. For example here, the meal consists in Hypholoma fasciculare, a very bitter and bad tasted mushroom that's no way to make a human's diet.
They also seems to eat with pleasure (and with no consequences!) the Deadly Cap, Amanita phalloides, an otherwise great danger for humans.

Well, since I wasn't thinking of picking up these mushrooms, I just wished to Mr. Limax a "Bonne apetit", I took a snapshot and went on my way.

Cheers, Petru

Hi Petru
Welcome back again my friend. Funny how (earlier this evening) I was thinking to go and view your portfolio again, because I have not seen (or heard) anything from you lately and here you post a new fungi (& friend) shot. I say fungi (& friend) for I wonder if this slimy slug ever would have found its way to TN if there were no fungi in the shot. :o)
I have great 'sympathy', but also a huge amount of admiration for you 'photo scanners' who successfully post your material on TN, where the trend are most definitely ‘digital’ for obvious reasons. Not many photographers who attempt to do this have much success, but your portfolio and track record prove you to be one of the more accomplished photo photographers on TN. For that I give you a big ‘thumbs up’.
Although this photo seems to be very busy due to the large number of mushrooms, I still like the composition. It shows the slug nicely while it is feasting on this lavish banquet of hypholoma fasciculare. The colours are fine and so are the details, while the exposure was well managed, considering the contrast between the darkish slug and the very bright coloured mushrooms.
Very well done and TFS.

Loot

Hi Petru,
Interesting capture... This guy has found himself quite a meal..!
Great colours, fine details... all well framed in a nice composition!

Hi Petru,
Welcome back! Hopefully you will continue. Your work is always excellent, educational, and enjoyable! I always learn something new from your work. This big guy has found the buffet of fugi. If he eats the poision mushrooms, and then something eats him, will the poision effct that creature that ate the snail?? Very nice flash exposure here. Colors and detail look great.

Hi Petru,
it´s true, is not clear, but is a rare image, a "babosa" Limax eating in mushrooms? Surely unusual in TN and in many places.
Nice colours and a good documental.

Chris

I miss you my old friend! I hope things are well for you. 2006 was a year I don't mind forgetting, but then if we never had times like that we might take the good times for granted.
I did get to travel to Arizona, but I had no opportunity to take any pictures.
I like this picture alot. I can't say that it is particularly beautiful, but it does show an educational aspect of nature very well. That is amazing what those things can eat...
Salut mf!

Hi Petru.
A very interesting shot of this huge slug feeding on these Hypholoma.
We have a similar giant Tiger Slug here in New Zealand.
I don't eat many fungi myself ... just the usual field mushrooms and those ones that turn blue when you pick them ;)
Cheers
Steve
