Hi everybody

This is somewhat of a multiple dedication and it specially refers to Michal (cedryk), Radomir (cicindela) and Krzysztof (cataclysta) - the Polish Armada of zoologists here on TN ;)

As i've told them not long ago, i really like their work...and their way of working to be more precise...with all these nice big trips to all sorts of different countries. And while they're doing that, they make sure that everybody has the chance of seeing the beauties that they've explored and therefore present us some wonderful picture of splendid places spiced up by funny or interesting notes. They really gave a whole new image for some countries to me (but I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one) and very good perspective for a future holiday ;) But probably the most important thing is that they show the beautiful side of some places in the Eastern Europe, places that use to have quite a bad reputation or image in the western world…so please folks, listen to them.

THANKS GUYS FOR DOING WHAT YOU DO!

As for this photo, this is a Brown Emerald Damselfly - Sympecma fusca, a species you've seen quite a few times here on TN. I was lucky to find a rather patient one last fall and managed to take some pictures of it using my close-up lenses.
It is a rather common species in Romania in lowland regions, but i've also seen plenty shots of it from other countries, too :)

Hope you'll like it :)

Hello Horia,
This is a nice dedication and I'm sure that those persons will be happy about this delicate thought! This is a very nice and detailed capture of this Damselfly, something that I never managed to do in a decent way so far. I don't know what they have here but they won't stay in place or if they do, I never know how to make proper focus on them :) I like this composition and exposure! This is well done again :) Thanks,
Claudine

Hello Horia,
I must say your title made me wonder what the Polish Armada was. Now I know and these guys make excellent contributions to TN - like this shot of S. fusca, that I have never seen in real life as it is very rare in Sweden.
Nice sharp and well composed capture with fine BG and comp., but you know that yourself!
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Hi Horia,
This is a so clean image!
I like so much the way you build the composition, in this ascendent way.
The green gradations on the background are so beautiful ones, and make the perfect back for this artistic image.
The close up lens works pretty good, you got a high quality image.
Details on the emeral demselfly are so crisp and sharpen, it's so enjoying to look at them.
The POV and the pose catched on the insect could'nt be better.

I agree with you on the expressed in your notes, I've told them on my critics to their pics...I think this is a very deserved dedication to these fellow friends.
This is a very good photo, thanks for share the pic, and warm regards,
JM

Hi Horia,

Hi Horia.
I have read your note with great interest. They are really the appreciable phenomenon in a life of TN. But now about your bewitching shot.

It's perfect. Last summer I managed to make only a few pictures of this insect, but I could not get anything satisfactory. If you have written, that this picture have been taken by means of the Canon 1Ds Mark II, I willingly would believe. Great quality and great composition. BRAVO and best regards.

Hello Horia,
Excellent close macro work with the stacked? Hoya closeup lenses..Well composed with excellent sharpness, detail, DOF, color, and light mf. I like the BG alot too :)
Very well done.

Hello Horia!
At first I would like to thank you for so nice dedication! It is a really great honour for us to read so nice compliments (I believe that Michal and Krzysztof will agree with me! :>) .
Well, the true is that we are really lucky - our work is exacly this what we like to do :)
But when you are writing about "Eastern European counties" it is important to remember about one thing - in every single of these countries we met a lot of very friendly people, who very often helped us a lot (soon it will be a few words more about this ;>).
So, I believe that it is important to unmask the untrue stereotypes about these regions and to show how the reality looks like :)

Ok, now a few words about the most important thing - your picture! :)

I like the POV and DOF which are really very good. All important morphological characters of damselfly are seen.
Colours and contrast between species and BG is also very good.
I like the note too, but I would like to add one sentence about this species (really about both European Sympecma species)
What is unusual in European Odonata, but typical for these two species is that they overwinter as... ADULTS! :) So really they are the first species of Odonata active in spring as imagines! :)

Once again many thanks for this dedication! :)
Best greetings from Lodz!
Radomir

Hi Horia
Félicitation pour cette superbe prise de vue .Ce magnifique macro eet de toute beauté avec des détails et des couleurs a nous couper le souffle.
Merci et au revoir....JP

I agree with you, Horia. This bunch of lively zoologists from Poland is a sheer powerhouse of energy and ideas and they have made TN a really exciting place.
Your damselfly looks pretty, tall and elegant, spanning almost the entire diagonal space within the frame.
Very good capture from every point of view.
Regards,
Ram

Hello Horia !

really outstanding picture, Horia
all details are sharp and the background is nicely coloured and pretty blurry.
By the way, have you noticed that Sympecma species have their wings on one side of the body, while in rest. I've wondered why that is. One possible explanation could be they fly already early in the season and need all solar energy they can get. Having your wings on only one side of the body means the other side can absorb all warmth. But that's just my theory.
Anyway, nice picture
Jacob

Hi Horia
very well captured this damselfly with perfect sharpness from head to end of body and I love the wings delicatess!
I also liked your notes and I must say it´s a fortune that no longer make sens to talk about eastern or western europeans...we are all just europeans and share not only a land bur also a culture and praise fundamental principles like democracy and freedom in all it´s aspects!

Hello Horia,

To my surprise I found this lovely dedication in your PF! Thanks a lot! I'm really grateful for such nice words.

I believe that eastern Europe is a place to be discovered yet for its beauty - I just hope it will not be demolished by the mass tourist industry.

And with regards to my and my friends' post on TN - that's what mine, and I think their, intention was - to show to people, to naturalists, the places and phenomena they usually do not see or even do not think about as potentially attractive.

I'm very happy it works :-)
All the best My Friend!!!
