Crab spider

Crab spiders are no active hunters. They make more use of the camouflage techniques than other spiders and catch their prey with their front legs. The color of the spider is adapted to the hunting terrain they use and is mostly extravagant. They remain unmoved until the prey arrives and catches it. With a poisonous bite (not dangerous to humans) they kill their prey and suck it dry. They can be found on flowers or leaves of plants. Often the crab spider remains for days, even weeks at the same spot. The front two legs, that are often larger and stronger than the other six, are held sideways, ready to catch the prey immediately. Because they sit on easily spotted places they are also easy to catch by the predators. When they spot a possible enemy they move quickly at the other site of the flower or leave. Their eyesight is excellent developed as can be seen on the pictures. They have normally two big front eyes.

Crab spiders are easy recognizable if you tease them. They widen their legs and move side ways like a crab. Their size is between 4 - 10 mm.

The females usually stand guard with their egg sacs. The egg sacs are fastened to the vegetation and are usually flat.

Hi Tanja,
This is a very contrasting and colorful image!
Great this macro of the crab spider, I really like all the clear and sharp details got on their legs, and the curious color spot on the body.
I like very much this square composition made, to enjoy at its best all this colour explosion here.
Very good the DOF for the way it isolates the subject from the nicely blurred background.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM

nice colors and good DOF but the spider could use some sharpening. clearly this spider stands out from the flower it's on.

I love the colours here of both the spider and flower...two of my favorite colours.
Nicely done Tanja an excellent macro. Wonderful lighting and detail. I like how you can see the tiny hairs on both the flower and spiders legs. Good note too.

Hello Tanja
With the contrasting colours this lovely little spider stands out so well against the dark background of the flower. This macro clearly shows the lovely markings on the spider’s body, while the great colours and good focus shows all the pretty details. I notice you did not have much light to work with, but a smaller aperture would have made those legs on the right to be in focus as well. Good effort though.
Greetings
AC

Hello Tanja,
When I saw the thumbnail, i thought there was a head of a little fairy sticking out of the flower. what an interesting image!
Good sharpness and beautiful colors.
Maybe a bit more contrast would bring out more richness in the colors.
Great POV and composition.
TFS. : )

This is a very colourful and interesting picture. The crab-spiders are really photogenic. All your last pictures are excellent (I was away for a few days). Bravo.
Bonne journée

Hello Tanja!
Very nice composition, with good contrast and colours.
On the other hand a little better DOF would be nice.
Anyway, it is nice to see that every single picture taken by you is better and better than the last one :)
