I don't know what this is, but seem it had some problems with his wings.I found it in the early summer near the water in the grass, first I thought it was drying it's wings but then after an hour I saw that the wings were uselles, I don't know why, it just crawled and jumped trough the grass like a criple.
Thannks to Peter (batu) it's identified as moth
Phragmatobia fuliginosa
it belongs to
Arctiidae a large and diverse family of moths with around 11,000 species found all over the world, with 6000 Neotropical species (Scoble 1995). This family includes the groups commonly known as tiger moths (or tigers), which usually have bright colours, footmen (which are usually much drabber), lichen moths and wasp moths. Many species have 'hairy' caterpillars which are popularly known as woolly bears. The scientific name refers to this (Gk. αρκτος = a bear). Caterpillars may also go by the name 'tussock moths' (more usually this refers to Lymantriidae, however). |

Hello Tanja,
I like to see pictures which do not show the perfect state but also what can go wrong. This is in most cases not so 'attractive' for the aesthete but for the biologist. So, thank you for posting this non-perfect moth by means of a perfect picture.
Most probably, your picture shows a female of
-- Phragmatobia fuliginosa
-- family: Arctiidae
Best wishes, Peter

Hello Tanja,
Interesting shot of this moth. Often they look like this just after emerging when they are "pumping up" the wings, but maybe this one is a misfit.
TFS and regards, Ulla
