This is Pine ladybug
-Exochomus quadripustulatus,
aprox. 4mm long on this photo,
also called kidney-ladybirds because of kidney shaped red dots.Adults are 5mm long strongly domed black coloured with 4 irregular shaped red spots. They feed on aphids on conifers.
I found them in my garden.
Phylum: Arthropoda
Subphylum: Uniramia
Class: Insecta
Order: Coleoptera
Family: Coccinellidae
Subfamily: Chilocorinae
Genus: Exochomus
Tribe: Chilocorini
Author: Linnaeus
There have been numerous studies whether this insect could help in biocontrol of horse chestnut scale insect Pulvinaria regalis Canard, knowing the fact that it preys on pulvinaria's larvae.
Adults and larvae are predators on scale insects too. |
