PEACOCK BUTTERFLY

Latin name: INACHIS IO
Family: Nymphalidae
Size: Wingspan approximately 60mm
Food: Nectar. The caterpillars feed on stinging nettles

The Peacock butterfly`s wings are reddish-brown on top with distinctive "false eye" markings. In contrast the underside of the wings look almost black, allowing the peacock to remain well comouflaged in gardens sheds and outbuildings during its winter hibernation.

You can see them on any sunny day, sometimes even in winter, but most likely between March and September.

Lindo animal, no sabia que en Europa existieran mariposas tan coloridas.
Una recomendacion biologica: los nombres cientificos se escriben con mayuscula el genero y minuscula la especie (Inachis io)
