YELLOW-FRONTED AMAZON
Before comes to the year of age the dark gray color of the iris of these birds, it changes for a yellow, orange or red tone, according to the species.
Later already there is no indication to know the age of an Amazona, exempting the Amazona of Belize, which is late four or five years in reaching the adult's complete plumage in the head. The only species that present sexual dimorphism are the albifrons and the xantholora. It is frequent that the macho is of major size that the female, but it is necessary have many specimens to compare and even this way not to be a trustworthy distinction.
The Amazonas are in the habit of feeding of seeds (sunflower, alazor, bird-seed, hemp, white millet, millet in ear, pine kernels, peanuts ...), fresh fruit and vegetables with complements like: barks of bread toasts, toast, biscotes or cake, boiled meat and bones of chicken with something of meat. The Amazonas enjoy chewing fresh branches and playing with them, which helps them to support his beak and nails in good order. During a soaker, the Amazona will hang head down opening his wings not even a drop of rain to get lost. This allows him to avoid an excessively dry plumage and powdery.
The Amazonas never nest of constant form, and often they it do an alone time for season, even if the eggs not eclosionan. The Amazon in condition of zeal, transforms in aggressive animal capable of attacking all those they bring him over to his nest. The Amazonas female can put eggs from 2 years, very early age if it is considered to be the longevity of these birds. More habital is that not empiezen to producing up to 4 years and that the first putting of eggs is not fertile. Every putting is in the habit of consisting of some 3/4 eggs that the female incubates between 25 and 28 days; during this period, the macho feeds the female. When the nestlings are born, the female will remain approximately three weeks in the nest taking care of the nestlings and approximately 5 weeks more passing the nights in the same one.
