Habitat and place of origin:
Dry places, rocky hillsides. Good part of the American continent, wherefrom it is original, a Mediterranean area, Canary Isles, Mediterranean islands.
Description:
Beefy plant, with flat and oval stems, sharp thorns in groups from 1 to 4. Yellow, orange or red flowers, of vivacious colors, of up to 10 cm of diameter. Fruits of up to 90 mm, foodstaffs (the figs prickly pears).
Culinary applications:
The figs prickly pears are sweet and beefy fruits estimated in some places to do ice creams and creams, but that normally eat up to the native, or softened in wine.
Notes:
This plant is original of America, but it has been naturalized in many places of the Mediterranean zone and of the moderate zones of the whole world. Also it is abundant in the Canary Isles.
