Macroglossum stellatarum Linnaeus, 1758 - Atmaca Güvesi [TR], Hummingbird Hawk-moth [EN] is first for me, however it is one the mots popular Lepidopteran species on TN.
M. stellatarum with a long proboscis is one of c. 1200 species of the family Sphingidae. It hovers in midair, feeding on nectar of flowers. At this moment, it looks like a hummingbird and its sound is audible. Hawk-moths with capable of flying at over 50 km/h are some of the most fastest flying insects.
The species is migratory and it ranges from Iberian Peninsula and North Africa throughtout Turkiye and the Caucasus to Japan.
Lantana camara Linnaeus - Ağaçminesi [TR], Lantana [EN] is an invasive plant species of the family Verbenaceae of Lamiales, growing naturally in Atlantic coastal plains of North America. Lantana, also known as Spanish Flag, is used commonly as an ornamental flowers in parks and gardens. But it attracts many butterfly and bird species. And so its seeds are dispersed by birds.
I'd like to see European macaques and I went to Cebelitarık [Gibraltar] in our last day in Spain, where I visited for IUCN meeting. Unfortunately, I could not see macaques in spite of our special passport and Schengen Visa. So, we (with Profesor Nuri Yiğit) stayed in Spanish portion of Cebelitarık until our friend George from Greece finished his visit. The photograph was taken near port of Cebelitarık, the westernmost limit of its area.
The city's name was originated from Arabic "Cebel [Jebel]" with meaning "mountain" and "Tarık [Tarik]", shortened "Tarık bin Ziyad" who on April 29, 711, the armies of Tariq landed at Gibraltar (for more information see Wikipedia and historical sources).

Superb one my friend Ahmet. I have a few of this lantana around my house and they do attract insets. This is new to me, I mean the inset and you have provided good note with it. Excellent composition and may you have a wonderful day ahead.

Hi Ahmet

A great action shot here lovely colours and good frozen action.

I am really sorry that you did not get to see the Macaques (though they are not really European anymore - during WW2 numbers were low so Winston Churchill had some imported from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco to boost numbers, so there are no 'pure' ones left. It is also pretty awful up there (I thought - a real tourist trap). Anyway, I am sorry (and embarrassed) that you were not allowed over the border to see them (the UK is not a Shengen country).

Hi Ahmet, very nice shot of this Hummingbird Hawk-moth. Someday I'm going to have to see one of these for myself, I keep seeing shots here on TN. You've caught this guy in good light, giving you great depth of field, detail and colour on the moth and the front bunch of flowers that he is feeding from. Very nice stopped action.

Thanks, John

Hello Ahmet,

Very nice picture of this moth drinking nectar. Good POV and DOF. Sharpness is good too. Beautiful light and colours. I hope to be able to see them this summer. Last summer was too cold.
Cheers,
Mariki

Merhaba Dr.Ahmet,
Selam!!
beautifully captured on the Hawk-Moth approching onto the lantana flowers!
captured well with good exposure and focus in the shot!
many thanks for the informative notes once again especially on the lantana
warmest regards to you and family always
friend Tony

"Macroglossum" indeed! You've captured that loong proboscis perfectly Ahmet, its distal end disappearing within the nectarin of that lantana flower. A very nice and dynamic comp. my friend, all around contrasty colors are quite effective.
Cheers,
Mehmet

Hi Ahmet,
The first time I saw this insect in Turkey I was puzzelt, wondering if I could believe my eyes, was it a small bird? It was so fast I couldn't make out. Excelent shot, with nice natural colors and light and good composition.

Wow! The Latana is a very Camara-friendly plant! (Excuse the poor humour!)
But even more impressive is that hovering Hummingbird Hawk-Moth!!
Great sharpness.
Very well composed and a great POV.
It takes immense skill to capture such a speedy insect in-flight to very well done for doing so!
Thanks,
Joe

Merhaba Ahmet,
Nice one of a Hummingbird Hawk-moth from your archives. Fine POV and composition with the colourful lantana flowers. The details of the moth are well shown with good sharpness considering that it is moving. Pity that we can only have lantana in the summer here!
Thanks for sharing this one,
Best wishes, Ivan

Hi Ahmet.
Wonderful colourful in-flight shot. I have not such nice picture of the insect despite some attempt to shoot it. Amazing colours and lighting as well as the timing and framing. My compliments and TFS.
Alexei.
P.S. I am very grateful to you for your nice and hearty comments.
