Paeonia broteri Boiss. & Reut.
Peony or paeony is a name for plants in the genus Paeonia, the only genus in the flowering plant family Paeoniaceae. They are native to Asia, southern Europe and western North America. Boundaries between species are not clear and estimates of the number of species range from 25 [1] to 40. [2]
Most are herbaceous perennial plants 0.5–1.5 metres tall, but some are woody shrubs up to 1.5–3 metres tall. They have compound, deeply lobed leaves, and large, often fragrant flowers, ranging from red to white or yellow, in late spring and early summer.

G.rh. 30–70 cm. Tallos glabros, a veces rojizos. Hojas pecioladas, 1–2–ternadas, con 9–20(30) segmentos de (3,5)5–12(14) x (1)1,5–4,5(5) cm, elípticos u oblongo–elípticos, sésiles o subsésiles, de ápice agudo y base cuneada, coriáceos, glabros, de haz verde brillante y envés glauco. Flores (7)9–15 cm de diámetro, actinomorfas, hermafroditas, terminales, solitarias; sépalos 3–3,5 x 2–2,5 cm, anchamente oblongos, obtusos, coriáceos, persistentes, acompañados de 2 o 3 piezas bracteiformes de base ensanchada y coriácea y ápice foliáceo; pétalos 5–8, de 3,5–5,5x 2,5–5 cm, obovados, de color rosa púrpura; estambres numerosos; carpelos libres, con estigma circinado, curvado desde la base. Folículos (2)3–5(6), de 1,5–3,5(4,5) x 0,5–1,5 cm, arqueado–patentes, densamente tomentosos; semillas 6–9 x 5–7 mm, primero rojas, despuésazul–negras. 2n = 10, 20. IV–VII. Bosques y bosquetes mediterráneos climatófilos, indiferente edáfica, 100–1700 m (t–s). Ibérica (O y S). Casi todo el territorio. oc. LC.
