Porcellio scaber
La cochinilla de humedad , también llamada "bicho bolita", no es un insecto, es un crustáceo terrestre. Tiene un cuerpo ovalado, dividido en segmentos regulares de color gris-pizarra hacia amarillo grisáceo. Viven en los baños, cocinas, lavaderos, sótanos, debajo de alfombrillas, detrás de estanterías y cajas, así como entre las papas almacenadas y otros materiales depositados en condiciones húmedas. Las cochinillas de humedad se alimentan de madera en descomposición, restos blandos de vegetales y atacan también alimentos vegetales depositados. El daño causado en los hogares y sótanos en general no es considerable, se limita a pequeñas roeduras en las papas, vegetales y frutas. Sin embargo es la cochinilla un animalito asqueroso. En los jardines dañan las cochinillas de humedad a las plántulas en germinación así como las pequeñas plantitas en desarrollo.
