| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
We saw this one struggling for his life in a pool of water. We scooped it out and set it on a rock to dry. I don't know if it was going to make it though. We saw a lot of dead butterflies during that trip. The end of the season ...?
Absolutely no idea what kind of butterfly (or moth?) this is.
Addition:
Following Anel's lead the web told me this probably is a Variegated Fritillary (Euptoieta claudia). |

Very kind of you to take care. I like this picture, suggesting resurrection. At least I hope so for the butterfly..
Regards
Anne
P.S. It's a Nymphalidae, Heliconiinae, but difficult to say exactley which one.
Hi Lies,
moving and appealing document of the fact that we all are guests on earth, all of us. Great you have rescued this butterfly from drowning.
The picure is clear, sharp, well composed. For documenting a certain butterfly a closer approach or cropping would always be recommended. But here I think there is an exception. This is a picture of a poor little creature rescued - and this creature is small. And so the picture if well taken as it is - with a lot of feeling.
As for the ID, it is very likely to be a female of "Argynnis paphia L.", the Silver Washed Fritillary.
With thanks and best regards,
Peter
