Red-crested Pochard (Netta rufina).

We saw both male and female as we walked on a bridge over one of the canals in the Albufera nature reserve. You can see the female in the WORKSHOP.

This POV slightly from above is not ideal as I took this male from the bridge itself at a distance of only about 30 meters (33 ft).

The Red-crested Pochard is native to the warmer parts of Europe, especially the Mediterranean. It also breeds in Central Europe to overwinter further south. As it has been introduced as an ornamental bird in parks it has established itself in several European countries including the UK. Despite this it is not regarded as a common species of duck.

Hello Ivan,
Super shot of this Pochard. The lighting and color as well as focus details are superb. Fine work, Tfs Siggi

Hello Ivan,

Beautiful capture of this Red-crested Pochard. Excellent focus on the head and the beautiful eye of the duck. Excellent sharpness. Superb light and colours.
Cheers,
Mariki

Ciao Ivan,
splendida cattura di Fistione turco, straordinaria definizione dei dettagli del capo, meravigliosi i colori e la luce con i riflessi sull'acqua. Interessante anche WS della femmina.
TFS.
Maurizio

Looks fine to me from the present POV Ivan, a splendid individual indeed against the greenish water in the BG and FG. The slight reflections gave the composition a dreamy air, TFS this fine image my friend.
Cheers,
Mehmet

Hello Ivan
This is a fine capture of the Male Red Crested Pochard although I do take your point that a lower pov would have been more desirable as you have displayed so well in the workshop.
I actually prefer the picture of the Female as they are photographed a lot less but are still a fantastic looking bird despite their slightly drab colours.
There are literally Hundreds that overwinter in Welney (Norfolk Uk)..I have not seen them but I intend to go this year...Welney is James Parkers Local Patch (If he has one!!) and they had just left when I went out with for a day with James earlier this year.
All the Best
Paul

Hi Ivan,
I loke the expression on this wonderful duck alot. It looks like it smilled for you. As you mentioned, the high POV aint perfect, but you were lucky enough that it was still far away enough to still get a effect as if you were low. I love how the bill and eye standout from the rest. The catch light in the eye is great.
TFS,
Niek

hi ivan,
very colorful and beautiful pochard (male), i don't see the viewpoint makes any big difference because of the distance between you and the subject, it may a difference if the distance is less, like in macro. this looks good too, as sometimes you avoid the horizon completely. tfs.

Hello Ivan,

This is a very nice portret of the bird. The sharpness you have shown bird's head is impressive. Even fine feathers from the head can be seen. There is also a beautifull light in bird's eye adding more life to the image.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Hi Ivan,

The males have it, don't they? This male Red-crested Pochard is stunning with his read eye and beak and the beautiful plummage. Textures and details are superb. I like the view from the bridge - the ripply water with the reflections are lovely.

Jane

Hi Ivan

Great shot of this Pochard - great pose and detail, plus excellent colours and lighting.

James

hello Ivan

excellent shots of both male and female Red-crested Pochards,
they are beautiful ducks, the sharpness and details are excellent,
but i (me) personally loving more the POV of the female,
the POV being more at the level of the subject than at the
one of the male, i would put the female'shot here
and the male's shot at the workshop, chaque personne à son goût,
