Hello everyone!
We are back from a week’s holiday in Lanzarote and this is my first landscape picture on TN depicting a volcanic landscape that has made Lanzarote famous.

The island is about 60 km (37 miles) long and 25 km (16 miles) wide on average.

The island is about 20 million years old and it is the result of a series of volcanic eruptions that have created the Canary Islands. At 126 km (78 miles) it is the closest to the African coast. The last great eruption was in1730 and lasted 6 years to cover 25% of the island with lava and new volcanoes. Many villages were destroyed. This depicts a part of the result of that eruption at the edge of the Timanfaya national park. Another less extensive eruption took place in 1834.

The island is pretty dry and the little rainfall that comes in the winter falls mainly in the north where the landscape is a little greener and more cultivated. People have lived on the island for about 2000 years, but many have emigrated during years of drought.

In 1912 Alfred Wegener visited the island to study its involvement in continental drift and how it was created during the separation of the American and African continental plates.

This was taken from the SW coast in the late afternoon with my compact hand-held. It was not cropped and was slightly sharpened after size reduction.

Ciao Ivan,
TFS.

Hi Ivan,
Outstanding shot and a delight for the eyes this volcanic terrain. The red mountains and the brown rocks in the FG creates a fabulous visual treat with the blue sky with wooly clouds. Great view and a fantastic place to visit. Excellent POV and DOF and the composition is top class.

hello Ivan,
Nice to see that you are back! I hope you had excellent holidays.
Great pleasure also to see this lansdscape of Lanzarote which I visited a few years ago. I was impreessed by these heavy dark volcanic soils without any vegetation. You picture is exately what I have kept in my mind.
You have chose an interesting point of view with the large dark ground in the foreground leading to the reddish colored hills.
Thanks
Have a nice weekend
Anne

Merhaba Dostum,
Bu kareyi görünce Ağrı (Ararat) dağı tırmanışı esnasında gördüğüm volkanik akıntı izlerine benzettim. Notlarınızdan zaten volkanik kayalar olduğunu yazmışsınız. Etkileyici ve sıradışı bir manzara fotosu olmuş. Emeğine sağlık.

Holy cow! and I thought I had volcanic fields..This is amazing. Never heard of this place and surely never saw it. what a treat for my eyes..I shall hurry and get Jane. I am certain she will love it as well...Looks like you had to do a bit of trekking on vacation..I asked Annick about shoes. He uses Clarks. I pointed out that Clarks sold in US are made in china now...what kind do you use? I use Birkenstock even on stuff like this which is why I go through so many pair!

Welcome back - you and Ulla were both missed. A very beautiful volcanic landscape and with your notes a most informative one. The brown volcanic field leading to the mountains and the sky is awesome. Colors, clarity and composition are all superb.

These rocks are what our youngest volcanic island (Rangitoto) in Auckland, NZ, is made of. But the island is also covered in Trees and greenery now, growing up through the crevices of the rock.

It does look very dry here Ivan, and I doubt it would get much new life growing there. Isn't it an interesting place ot visit
Well done
Janice

Hello Ivan, long time no see my friend, welcome back indeed!
A rugged terrain you are showing us here, volcano cones in the distance and a rough, lava covered arid field in the foreground, all captured perfectly under a cloudy sky. Wegener must have seen the immediate importance of the region for his continental drift theory.
TFS and cheers,
Mehmet

merhaba Ivan,
I miss your posts and notes. I thought another internet connection problem. welcome back, my friend. I hope you had a great time there.
Your post great and it is from interesting place. Two years ago, I visited Jordan and Syria. There are similar stony desert there and they are similar to yours, with view.
Continental drift is another great subject. I teach it in my zoogeography lesson.
Thanks for sharing, best regards to you and Ulla.

Ciao Ivan, well returned, impressive landscape from volcanic place, unusual for you, great composition with wonderful light and colors, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Ivan

an interesting barren landscape. It will be interesting to see what fauna you got there, doesn't sound too potentially productive from your description. good composition.

It looks like a Martian geology, how fascinating. To me, such a dry landscape is amazing because where I live, it rains much and it is green. Very nice picture filled with light, interesting pov and I like the blue sky with the high clouds! Thank you Ivan,

Amazing trophy form trip. I am impressed with this truly three-dimensional picture of very attractive and unusual for me place. Colouration of the ground, hills and cloudy sky is wonderful, delicate and looks wonderfully. Details of whole scene are ultimate. Well done and TFS. I am waiting your new pictures.

Thats a lot of scoria Ivan.
I wouldn't like to walk across that terrain barefooted.I've had to crawl through lava caves and it rips the pockets off your overalls!
An amazing looking landscape, but a bit bleak and devoid of vegetation for my personal taste.
A great image though.

Great POV and DOF, good pose, details and sharpness.Good work! TFS

Hello Ivan,
Welcome back, especially with such great landscape with superb colours
Considering the lense's opening the DOF is good but would have been even better with a smaller aperture and of course a tripod
It will be interesting to see what kind of wildlife you have seen in such place

Hello Ivan!
What an original picture and unique landscape! Wonderful panoramic view with very nice colouration. It looks like empty of life but I hope that you saw any organisms there :)
Nothing to add, simply very interesting picture!
Greetings from the place covered by snow ;)

hello ivan,
very interesting, i have never seen anything like this, i liked the natural earhen colors and the bright sunshine all over the terrain,
well composed shot,

Hi Ivan,
Welcome back! Excellent capture of this beautiful landscape with good composition and DOF, sharp interesting details, great lighting and nice warm colours.

Hello Ivan,

This is a fine shot of the volcanic landscape.
Your low pov creates interest in the f/g which naturally leads the eyes in deeper towards the mountains. THe details relate clearly a very barren landscape with interesting textures and varying colours.
Well composed.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Ivan,
How are you!
thank you for sharing a unusual landscape that we do not often seen! much appreciated for this beautiful volcanic landscape with the vastness and colour!
thank you for the informative notes as well

Hi Ivan!

Thank you for presenting us Lanzarote. I'm glad that you explain us where and how it is, otherwise one could believe you were on Mars... So surprising and amazing! The colours and shapes are superb, it would be a paradise for a person like me who loves rocks and stones! Thank you also for the interesting notes!

Hi Ivan,
such a vast landscape of this volcanic earth. So treeless and vegetationless.
Very interesting and I have never witness this one yet.
Happy New Year.
