[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Redshank (Tringa totanus)
Swedish name: Rödbena

This was taken by some saltpans called Salinas de Janubio that are still being worked. A natural lagoon was created by a ridge of stones piled up by the Atlantic. The lagoon has been excavated and deepened to feed water to adjacent saltpans where the sun dries them to leave salt. Several species of wader are attracted to where the lagoon was not deepened, either to rest or spend the winter.

Unknown to me at the time, Ulla took a shot of me while I took this. See the WORKSHOP. You can see the shallow lagoon and the mark of the high tide water level, the water seeping through the stone bank behind me. Ulla was on top of the bank.

You can see the volcanic landscape in the BG and the white cottages are mostly holiday homes. Apart from the algae, the green patches consist of various salt-tolerant plants.

This redshank is in winter plumage. It has lost its browns and spotted breast of the summer, but the legs remain bright orange-red. Here they show well in the late afternoon sun.

There were several redshanks at these saltpans and this one flew off with its loud alarm calls after I took this.
This was taken at a distance of about 10 meters (33 ft) with the camera held as shown in Ulla’s picture. After moderate cropping and size reduction the image was selectively sharpened.

Hallo Ivan
The colours and markings on this elegant bird's feathers is very clear and obvious. All in focus showing great details. Truly amazing, and a real delight to look at. Perfect exposure and natural background. A beautiful presentation of this beauty. It looks as if this bird is in deep concentration and focusing on where it is about to go. The brightly coloured paws is really something to look at, and it displays beautifully. Well framed and presented. Thanks for sharing. Much appreciated.
Kind regards
Anna

Hi Ivan,

Good shot of these Redshank in his natural pose seeking for food on the watershore.
Beautiful colours and reflections.

Hi Ivan!

You have captured this particular bird in a perfect manner. The legs colour is surprising and I wonder why the legs have to be like that.

I appreciate the picture in the workshop very much. It does not only show you at "work", but also reflects are marvellous landscape.

The details and colors here are excellent and the pose of the Redshank is also very nice.
Great to see that workshop photos, too. The habitat is so well visible and you in there is a great element for scale.
Lovely work and ideas by your Ulla and you.

An excellent capture of this Redshank Ivan.
Wonderful colours and detail in the plumage.
I really like Ullas shot of you by the water with that amazing backdrop.
That looks like a very dry landscape to me.
Very nice work.
Cheers
Steve

Thanks to Ulla, you can be seen in action in the workshop, Ivan.
That helps in realizing and appreciating your chosen point of view.
From it, you have managed a very good shot of a Redshank.
With its long stride in view, it appears to be in a hurry to get away from you.
Well done and TFS.

Hej Ivan,
a very fine capture of rödbenan, the red legs are really amazing. It's well exposed with nice light and colours.
Good sharpness and fine details. I like the weak reflection in the water.
Tack för att du sätter ut de svenska namnen.
Det är riktigt sk-tväder nu, bara regn och rusk, all snö är borta.

Hi Ivan,

Fantastic capture.

Excellent composition.
Good notes.

Hello Ivan
Excellent shot of this Redshank. The light has brought out the details and colours to perfection.
Kind Regards
Vinny

This is an extremely good use of workshop Ivan and Ulla...I would have never in a million years thought of this bird in this very barren looking land..Now that looks to me like some serious wildness...without many trees...and the bird now looks like he should travel here to the Norcalifornia shores for a more pleasant atmosphere:-)

Hi Ivan.
Great post with two amazing pictures. It is wonderful that we can see you at shooting and at so attractive place. Superb. Thanks Ulla a lot. Watching your original shot it is impossibly to imagine beautifulness of the scenery where you are shooting. However, shared picture is wonderful. I like its clean nice colours and transparency of the image at whole. Collours, details and sharpness of the bird as well as timing are ultimate. Bravo. My kind wishes.

Very good light-using photo ,
TFS and good luck Ivan .

Well, I like this double take a lot Ivan, something like a "hunter gets hunted" theme! That fine Redshank individual looks quite oblivious to the happenings around, going as usual with its search for something to eat, a fine prowling composition indeed!
Cheers,
Mehmet

Ciao Ivan,
bellissima immagine di Totano, eccellente POV basso come mostri nel WS, bellissimo momento di cattura con la plasticitŕ del movimento, ottima definizione, stupendi i colori.

Hi Ivan,
Very good capture of Redshank in beautiful winter plumage. Good to see waders with clean feet for a change - the ones I usually shoot are covered in mud. Great pose and low POV, sharp details, nice composition and natural BG.

Hello Ivan, it can't more clearer or sharper than that! A well composed shot done with a skillful technique, thanks!

Mario

hello Ivan

i think i already have written to you, i love bird or wild animal
images where the subject inside is in movement,
even if that movement is little like this image,
in this image the movement or that pose
must be of his hunting (or fishing) pose

superb (for me) shot of this Redshank with very fine POV, DOF
and framing, excellent sharpness and details, and i love
the very small action being on the image, TFS

merhaba Ivan, dostum,
