Potes is the main town in the Liébana district of Spain in the Province of Cantabria. It's a quaint old town straddling the river Deva which flows from the heart of the Picos de Europa at Fuent Dé. In recent years it has developed some decent hotels and restaurants. But it's the scenery that makes Potes special. It is surrounded by the towering peaks of the Picos de Europa, where you can enjoy walking at all levels. Beautiful flower-filled meadows on the lower slopes and some truly spectacular mountain walking as you go up. Or it's an easy 18 km drive to the cable car station at Fuent Dé, where you can be whisked to the top of the cliffs in just a few minutes.
