Pertenecen a la familia de los sírfidos. Los adultos alcanzan una longitud de 10-20 mm. Es característico de la familia la coloración del abdomen en el que se alternan segmentos amarillos con segmentos anchos y finos de color negro, semejantes a las abejas u avispas. Los adultos pueden observarse planeando entre las plantas o en vuelo estático.
Importante función polinizadoras (de ahí su nombre vulgar). Atacan a los pulgones.
Aparentemente en algunos países centroamericanos se las denomina también “Cantarias”.

What an interesting macro work!
The shallow DOF works very nice here and the lighting is excellently managed.
Also the colors are lovely, the blurred BG does well to isolate the subject and the composition is beautiful.

Nicely capturing this hoverfly. Nice DoF, sharp and neat blurry BG. Look like its wings was still vibrating when picture was taken. Nice natural colors.
