Descripción: Un licenido bastante común. Su ala anterior cobriza y la posterior con predomino de los marrones le dan el nombre de manto bicolor.
2.2 - 3.5 centímetros.
Identificación: Superficie superior de brillante, ardientemente naranja-roja con los puntos negros; con el margen externo naranja-rojo. La fila submarginal de zigzages naranja-rojos.
Los huevos se ponen en la planta. Las orugas jóvenes mastican la superficie inferior de hojas; los más viejos hacen canales en el tejido fino de la hoja.
Vuelo: a partir de Julio-Septiembre.
Alimento del adulto: El néctar de muchas flores incluyendo el ranúnculo común, trébol blanco, margarita...
Habitat: En lugares como pastos, los terraplenes, caminos, viejos campos, lugares rocosos.

PD: los puntos "azules" indican que es una segunda generacion, la primera no los lleva y la tercera los lleva muy definidos y mas grande.

Wing span: 7/8 - 1 3/8 inches (2.2 - 3.5 cm).
Identification: Upper surface of forewing shiny, fiery orange-red with black spots; hindwing gray with orange-red outer margin. Underside gray; hindwing with submarginal row of orange-red zigzags.
Life history: Males perch on grass or weeds to look for females. Eggs are laid singly on host plant stems or leaves. Young caterpillars chew holes in the underside of leaves; older ones make channels in the leaf tissue. Chrysalids overwinter.
Flight: One flight from July-September for alpine and arctic populations. Two flights in the north from June-July and August-September; three flights in the south from April-September.
Caterpillar hosts: Herbs of the buckwheat (Polygonaceae) family including sheep sorrel (Rumex acetosella), curled dock (Rumex crispus), and Oxyria digyna.
Adult food: Nectar from many flowers including common buttercup, white clover, butterflyweed, yarrow, ox-eye daisy, and various composites.
Habitat: In disturbed places in the East including pastures, landfills, vacant lots, road edges, old fields; rocky places in alpine habitats, and tundra in the arctic.

Hola Nicolás, me gusta tu mariposa vestida de gala.
La composición y el recorte estan muy bien, y el foco muy preciso en casi todo el sujeto.
El color tan cálido le da mucho encanto a la foto, pero quizas ganaras un poco de claridad enfriandolo un poco, aunque como siempre cuestion de gustos, de ajuste de monitor, etc. Cris y yo discutimos habitualmente, ella más frio, yo más calido :)

Hello Nicolas,
one can count the number of blue scales on the hindwings due to high magnification and excellent sharpness. The orange colour appears very brilliant. Great depth of field and well composed.
