Aves insectívoras inconfundibles, de unos 28 cm. con cuerpo y alas alargados, cola rectangular y pico largo y curvado. Excepcionales contrastes de colores en sus plumas, más apagados cuando es joven. Es un ave gregaria.

Voz también muy distintiva de la especie con un:
PRRUIP PRRUIP gutural, repetido y de largo alcance.

Prefiere terrenos arbustivos y abiertos con unos pocos árboles. Cria en colonias, en huecos que excava en cortes del terreno, también en hoyos, en arena, riberas de rios e incluso en terreno llano.

Presente en casi toda la Península Ibérica, excepto en el Norte.

En Catalunya (Catalonia) se estima una población de 25.000 parejas y en Europa de 750.000. Poca preocupación de extinción, aunque en Europa es una especie en declive.

A veces es bien ver los abelleros juntos con el hábitat! Tomas los pajaros con buen nitidez en una buena composición con las sierras de Catalonia en el fondo.

Bonjour Josep,
Pour moi il est toujours intéressant de voir l'environnement dans lequel vivent les diverses créatures. Et cette image nous donne une belle idée du paysage et une vision assez drôle de ces guêpiers qui regardent tous dans la même direction. Une image très plaisante.

Bonjour Josep,
il est inhabituelle de photographier des oiseaux avec un objectif macro. L'image ne restitue pas les couleurs éclatantes de ces magnifiques oiseaux. Ce n'est pas important car ton image est très belle. Elle montre une population en activité, avec des attitudes très typiques et nous indique quel est le territoire de chasse de ces bestioles. Peut être que tu pourrais redresser l'horizon...
