Toad from the iberian peninsula. This Western spatefoot had to cross the road to migrate from his land habitat to the waters of Rio Tietar in Extremadura, Spain. Driving late a night we came across a huge migration of all kinds of herpetofauna. Frogs, toads, salamanders and snakes. We stopped at every animal to remove it from the road. I know, it doesn't really help, because many animals return to the road to look for partners. But even if we saved only one toad from becoming a road pizza we did at least something.
Funny sight to see these toads jump around, at least 40 cm's up in the air. This one was quite flabbergasted to see this bright flashlight in the middle of the night. |

Hello Jacob,
besides butterflies and other insects I also like amphibians. You have captured this one in the darkness very well. Sharpness and point of view are pretty good.
Best wishes, Peter

Ahh...the one that got away :))
Of all the three species of the genus, this one doesn't live in Romania...so it got away :))
A very beatiful capture, Jacob, and one the surprises the two key elements characteristic to this genus - night life and those splendid eyes with their vertical pupil :)
Great low POV, nice sharpness and DOF and the light is well managed.
Graet work!
Cheers and have a great weekend
