Sierra de Tormantos. Cáceres.

Situada al norte de la provincia de Cáceres la Sierra de Tormantos, brazo montañoso en el extremo occidental de la Sierra de Gredos, delimita de forma natural las comarcas de la Vera y el valle del Jerte, ofreciendo resguardo de los fríos vientos del norte a gran parte de la comarca de La Vera, y proporcionándole un clima de tipo mediterráneo con inviernos y veranos relativamente suaves.
La sierra de Tormantos, en su cara norte, alberga parte de la Reserva Natural Garganta de los Infiernos. La reserva cuenta con abundantes saltos de agua, arroyos, cascadas, piscinas naturales o grandes pozas excavadas por la erosión circular del agua de los ríos. Los elevados índices de humedad contribuyen a su vez a potenciar una vegetación de gran valor ecológico con ecosistemas de bosque caducifolio, bosque de ribera, piorno serrano y pastizales alpinos. La fauna es autóctona y muy abundante. Sobre todo en la Reserva Natural Garganta de los Infiernos, donde habitan varias especies en peligro de extinción.

Breve apunte histórico:
La Sierra de Tormantos es el peor de los escollos que tuvo que salvar el emperador Carlos V, en su retiro al Monasterio de Yuste. Terminar la última etapa del viaje, suponía cruzar por encima de la Sierra de Tormantos, a través de la garganta del infierno y la garganta de las Yeguas, entre Tornavacas y Jarandilla de la Vera. Teniendo en cuenta que Carlos V era transportado en parihuelas y que portaba, no pocos acompañantes y enseres, aquella travesía tuvo que ser toda una Odisea. Hoy en día se organizan excursiones a pie por la misma senda que utilizó el emperador, que todavía hoy, evidencia el esfuerzo que los habitantes de la comarca hicieron por su rey, tallando piedras para abrir camino, construyendo puentes y haciendo brotar fuentes donde no las había.

Located to the north of the province of Cáceres the Mountain range of Tormantos, mountainous arm in the western end of the Mountain range of Gredos, delimits of natural form the regions of La Vera and the valley of El Jerte, offering defense from the cold winds of the north to great part of the region of La Vera, and providing a climate of Mediterranean type with relatively smooth summers and winters.
The mountain range of Tormantos, in its North face, lodges part of the Natural Reserve Throat of Hell. The reserve counts on abundant jumps of water, great natural streams, cascades, swimming pools excavated by the circular erosion of the water of the rivers. The high humidity index contributes as well to develop a vegetation of great ecological value with forest ecosystems of deciduous trees, alpine forest of shore, mountain piorno and pastures. The fauna is native and very abundant. Mainly in the Natural Reserve Throat of Hell, where there inhabit several species in danger of extinction. (Wikipedia)

Hi Maite

A very niec and beautiful vertical landscape.
This appears to be a wonderful, natural place, great for landscaping and animals shooting as well.
I really lik the nice waterfall but also that gorgeous tree from the FG, with all those plants climbing on it.
Very charming details and lovely natural colors.
Very well done!
