Felipe it is a very good shot indeed. I love the colour, composition and detail. I espicaially like hte light on the wings. However, sorry to be a pain but I think you have the wrong species. I think this is Calopteryx virgo. C. splendens has bands of colour on the wings whereas with C. virgo the pigmentation extends to the base of the wing and the legs have longer hairs. I hope you don't take offence. (C. splendens looks like this)

This is very definatley a Beautiful Demoiselle male as paul says, a little soft towards the head but otherwise very well seen.
Have been back and looked at the female I still think you have the ident right on that one it looks the same as the images I have of it.

These are definitely beautiful creatures. I'll agree with the C. virgo fraction, this looks like the one in my book. F-4 is on the short side for critters like these, which is probably why the head slips slightly outside DOF range, otherwise very good capture.

I have to agree with Bente about the dof. Apart from that it is a very good capture of one of the most beautiful damsel flies. He is really giving you a nice pose here and the well blurred background really sets him off.

Thanks Felipe. I just need to post at Treknature too as I have taken some photos of animal/plant in my hike and would like to know what it is. I saw one just like this dragonfly and I took the picture out of curiosity. It was blue, black and shiny dragonfly. And also by the river as seen in your photo. The way you took your dragonfly is interesting enough for me to know more, from the thumbview.

Felipe, curioso o título desta foto: aqui no Brasil, estes insetos também são conhecidos como cavalo-do-capeta.
Quanto à foto, grande nitidez e ótimo contraste. Perfeitas cores.
