Hej Ralf,
I wondered whether yesterday's female was that of a Black Redstart and this male cetrainly is a Black Redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros).
Superb capture with the pose, composition, sharpness, POV and BG making it a first class portrait.

Well done. A good composition.Excellent focus, superb perch and posture.
You were mentioning 800 mm. I guess you mean you used 400mm with a 2x extender. Take into account that there's also the sensor's factor as the 1D MarkIII isn't a full frame.
Just to verify my 400x2 hypothesis?

Hi Ralf,

Cool guy and very handsome. A beautiful portrait of this male Redstart. Colors are magnificent and the face and plumage are sharply detailed. I had posted a hummingbird with a similar red mark near the eye and Ivan suggested it was a parasite.

this is an stunning picture with great sharpness and very fine details, your long lens works great with the converter.
Well exposed, all details even in dark parts are well seen.
And it's well composed with a very nice DOF.

I've found the 2x works well also, the loss of sharpness is minimal..
