[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Usually I am not photographing birds. I want to show you this small heron. Photo was taken in Spain but in captivity (Valencia oceanary). According to TN terms of service photos of wildlife in captivity (game parks, zoos) are allowed, but these shots must show no trace of the enclosures or cages keeping these animals inside so I can show you this picture ;-)

The Striated Heron, Butorides striata, also known as Mangrove Heron or Little Heron.

This bird is often considered to be conspecific with the closely related North American species, the Green Heron.

Order: Ciconiiformes
Family: Ardeidae

Adults have a blue-grey back and wings, white underparts, a black cap and short yellow legs. Juveniles are browner above and streaked below.

Their breeding habitat is small wetlands in the Old World tropics from west Africa to Japan and Australia, and in South America. They are mostly non-migratory.

These birds stand still at the water's edge and wait to ambush prey, but are easier to see than many small heron species. They mainly eat small fish, frogs and aquatic insects. They sometimes use bait, dropping a feather or leaf carefully on the water surface and picking fish that come to investigate

This is a very well managed shot Krzysztof. I like the way the bird is isolated from the dark background. You captured wonderful detail in the heron. Nice!

Ohhh... really great shot of this beautiful hereon Krzysztof. The streaming water in backround created a beautiful effect with reflections. Details and sharpness of the subject also perfect in all around.

Wonderful shot of this elegant looking Straited Heron with very impressive sharpness and details. Nice pose captured on that branch and the intensity on its eye looks marvellous. The darkish BG helps in letting the subject stand out perfectly. Excellent POV, DOF and composition.

Hello Krzysztof,

You have made a fine photo of this bird showing it with great sharpness. Good details of the plumage can be seen and a lot of color tones have been well rendered. The sharp image of the bird stays very fine against the blurry background.
