| The Migrant Hawker, Aeshna mixta. There was an enormous number of those largish (60 mm) dragonflies in the La Donana national park (Delta of the Guadalquivir river, Andalucia, Spain)when we visited in November. Most of them were "hawking" above the shrubs, but a few were basking in the sun. They are tolerant to brackish water and can migrate (as their english name implies) in large numbers. |
