Superb shot of the lovely Blue Chaffinch, its a lovely composition and a fine pose with very nice detail and beautiful colours too set against a perfect pastal coloured BG. The timing is excellent as I created a Chaffinch theme last night and had asked if anyone had a Male Blue Chaffinch to pop in, I have your Female but couldn't find a Male, so thanks.

Victor,
I was silently hoping for a post from you of this bird. I have been to Tenerife twice, but first time I didn't have a camera at all. the second time I wanted to take a picture of this bird. We drove in the evening on the northern slopes of the Teide and ended finally on one of the 'free'campsites in the forrest. Next morning there was plenty of these chaffinches around but it was still the era of slide cameras and still too dark to take a fine capture. By the time the sun had set high in the sky, all finches had left for better locations and left me behind with only some blurred pictures of the species.
You have a very fine image. Love it!

Another lovely capture from you!
the colors of this cute Blue Chaffinch are outstanding and stand out so well from that blurred and complementary BG.
The details are also very nice and sharp, the exposure is well managed and the POV is excellent.

This is apparently a different kind of Chaffinch and very attractive by virtue of it, Vicma.
Somehow those identification tags on birds'legs put me off.
Anyway, this is a lovely image as a whole.

La imagen es preciosa con ese verde difuso del fondo y el fringilla en esa pose sobre las piedras volcánicas. Hermosa y con excelentes detalles.
Ya veo que a tí se te da muy bien ponerle nombre a los pajarillos. Yo es que de pájaros no tengo ni idea. Nunca me he puesto a fotografiarlos. Es demasiado difícil.

Hello Victor,

A very good capture of this endangered species! I didn't know there are more types of chaffinches. This Blue Chaffinch is as beautiful as the one that I know (Fringilla coelebs).

Composition:

Your composition is very clean and simple and therefore very efficient! I appreciate the lack of distracting objects in your shot. Personally, I'd have a bit more space in front of the bird but this isn't a mistake. It's just my preference. A very good idea to include the rocks as they give the bird a solid support. By overlapping them you enhanced the perspective which kind of gets flattened out in pictures taken with long telephoto lenses! The OOF background is wonderful and isolates the Chaffinch from everything else. I always value clean silhouettes that can easily be read against the background. Your model shows us a superb profile which you have captured brilliantly!

Colors:

Well, I have never seen other chaffinches except for the Fringilla coelebs. This one looks very interesting to me as it has a blueish plumage but that doesn't mean the colors in your picture are wrong. I find them well saturated and very pleasant to look at!

Contrast:

Good contrast in the foreground! It emphasizes the details very well! It also is a requirement for a picture with low contrast in the background.

Exposure:

Excellent exposure on this little guy! The correct exposure rendered great details in both shadows and highlights! I just can't ignore the very slow shutter speed you used during exposure. 1/100 is way too slow for a 400 mm lens! It makes me ask whether you used a tripod or supported your camera with something? The light must have been scarce if you had to pump up the ISO to 400. In spite of these conditions you captured the Chaffinch perfectly! Very well done!

Focus:

By accurately focusing on the bird's head you made sure the details look sharp. Using a large (f/5.6) aperture enabled you to capture a very shallow DOF which resulted in this wonderful background.

Great job! I also learned from your notes about the existence of other Chaffinch species! Thanks for sharing!
